Position summary: Field Tech - Power Systems Technicians or NETA Technicians perform service, test, and maintain various types of power transmission and distribution equipment. Responsibilities
Inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and data collection of low, medium and/or high voltage (to 500 kV) electrical systems. Test low, medium and/or high voltage switchgear and circuit breakers. Inspect, maintain, test, and repair transformers, circuit breakers and related equipment (45 KVA to 130 MVA, dry type and/or oil-filled). Maintain, test, and repair circuit breakers (low voltage 480 V, medium voltage up to 15 kV). Experience with SF6-filled equipment and gas-insulated switchgear is desired but not required. Test and inspect low and medium voltage cable installations. Operate high voltage test equipment including Doble Power Factor test sets. Start-up, troubleshooting and repair of controls and transfer schemes. Rotate on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies as needed. Ensure work complies with all regulatory requirements and safety procedures. Other duties as assigned by manager. Qualifications by Tech Level
Required Experience and Qualifications for Field Tech/Power Systems Tech I: High School diploma/GED and minimum 1 year of related experience. Knowledge of NETA, NEC, OSHA and NFPA standards. Experience with MCCs, breakers, relay testing, oil testing, infrared scanning, and switchgear start-up up to 500 kV (or military training in related programs). Ability to work safely and follow electrical safety procedures. Strong problem-solving, communication, organizational, and customer service skills. Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office; ability to research standards/products online. Valid driver’s license if position uses a company vehicle. Required Experience and Qualifications for Power Systems Tech II: High School diploma/GED and minimum 2 years of related experience. NETA Level II Certification. Ability to perform testing and service work with generally direct supervision; knowledge of lockout/tagout, arc-flash, and shock hazard analyses. Preferred experience as listed for Tech I (MCCs, breakers, relay testing, etc.) and adherence to safety procedures. Strong communication, problem-solving, and customer-service skills; computer skills with Windows and Office; valid driver’s license if needed. Required Experience and Qualifications for Power Systems Tech III: High School diploma/GED and minimum 5 years of related experience. NETA Level III Certification. Mentor/lead Level I and II Techs; manage routine and moderately complex tasks and projects, record keeping, and safety for others; capable of electrical power switching. Preferred experience similar to Tech II/I; safety procedures required; strong communication and problem-solving skills; computer skills; valid driver’s license if needed. Required Experience and Qualifications for Power Systems Tech IV: Associate degree in related field or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years of experience, or 10 years of related experience. NETA Level IV Certification. Lead/Mentor multiple tech levels; supervise large projects and crews; perform complex investigations and prepare reports; capable of independent work and electrical power switching. Preferred experience similar to Tech II/III; strong safety, communication, and problem-solving skills; computer skills; valid driver’s license if needed. Additional Information
Location: Denver, CO. Travel: Up to 20% travel. Compensation: Field Tech I–IV range from $25 to $65 per hour depending on skillset, certification, and experience, with overtime eligibility. Daily per diem available when traveling overnight. Relocation assistance available for highly qualified candidates.
