Overview
Field Tech - Power Systems Tech I, II, III, or IV. Field Tech- Power Systems Technicians or NETA Technicians are expected to perform service, test and maintain various types of power transmission and distribution equipment. Responsibilities
Inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and collect data of low, medium and high voltage (to 500kV) electrical systems. Low, Medium and high voltage switchgear and circuit breaker testing. Perform inspection, maintenance, testing and repair of transformers, circuit breakers and related equipment – 45 KVA to 130 MVA, dry type and/or oil filled. Perform maintenance, testing, reconditioning and repair on circuit breakers – low voltage 480 volt (molded case and air-magnetic) and medium voltage up to 15 KV (air-magnetic and vacuum). Experience with SF6 filled equipment and gas-insulated switchgear is preferred but not required. Test and inspect low and medium voltage cable installations. Experience operating high voltage test equipment including Doble Power Factor test sets. Perform start-up, troubleshooting and repair services on controls and transfer schemes. Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner when called. All work and decisions shall be conducted in strict compliance with regulatory laws. Other duties as assigned by manager. Required Experience and Qualifications
Power Systems Tech I High School diploma/GED and minimum 1 year of experience in a related field. Knowledge of NETA, NEC, OSHA and NFPA standards. Prefer experience with MCCs, breakers, relay testing, oil testing, infrared scanning, switchgear up to 500kV, or related military training (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, NAVY, etc.). Ability to work safely and follow electrical safety procedures. Good theoretical understanding of electricity and problem-solving aptitude. Effective verbal and written communication with customers and peers. Dependable, responsible with good judgment and organizational skills. Good customer service, time management and follow-up skills. Strong computer skills with Windows and Microsoft Office; ability to research standards/products/manufacturer information online. Valid driver’s license if position uses a company vehicle. Power Systems Tech II High School diploma/GED and minimum 2 years of experience in a related field. NETA Level II Certification. Safety-focused with ability to work under supervision; knowledge of lockout/tagout, arc-flash and shock hazard analyses. Prefer experience with MCCs, breakers, relay testing, oil testing, infrared scanning, start-up on switchgear up to 500kV; military training welcome. Knowledge of NETA, NEC, OSHA and NFPA standards. Ability to work safely, good problem-solving skills, and effective communication with customers and peers. Dependable with good judgment; strong customer service and time management. Strong computer skills and valid driver’s license if needed. Power Systems Tech III High School diploma/GED and minimum 5 years of experience in a related field. NETA Level III Certification. Performs testing and service work; mentors Level I and II Techs; manages routine and moderately complex tasks, records, and safety of others; can perform electrical power switching. Prefer experience with MCCs, breakers, relay testing, oil testing, infrared scanning, start-up on switchgear up to 500kV; military training welcome. Knowledge of NETA, NEC, OSHA and NFPA standards. Safety-focused with strong problem-solving and leadership abilities; effective communicator; dependable with good judgment and organizational skills. Strong computer skills and valid driver’s license if needed. Power Systems Tech IV Associate degree in a related field or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years of experience or 10 years of related experience. NETA Level IV Certification. Performs testing and service work; mentors Level I-III; manages routine and moderately complex tasks and projects; supervises large projects and multiple crews; may work independently; conducts complex investigations and writes reports. Prefer experience with MCCs, breakers, relay testing, oil testing, infrared scanning, start-up on switchgear up to 500kV; military training welcome. Knowledge of NETA, NEC, OSHA and NFPA standards. Safety-focused with strong problem-solving and leadership abilities; effective communicator; dependable with good judgment and organizational skills.
