Overview

PREP Research Associate. This position is part of the National Institute of Standards (NIST) Professional Research Experience (PREP) program. The PREP program provides opportunities for collaboration with researchers at academic institutions, with staff from various backgrounds working on scientific research across multiple areas. The project focuses on developing a procedure for quantifying uncertainties in wind loads on a tall building estimated by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) techniques. The research work includes the development and application of state-of-the-art computational techniques for simulating flow around tall buildings, quantification of uncertainty in simulations, and comparison with wind tunnel and field measurements. All CFD code will be developed for implementation into the OpenFOAM software. Responsibilities

Develop CFD modeling procedures for simulating flow around tall buildings and implement related codes in OpenFOAM Perform numerical simulations and quantify uncertainties in the simulation results Analyze simulation data and compare them with measured data from wind tunnel tests Qualifications

Ph.D. in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field Prior experience and contributions in wind engineering, Computational Fluid Dynamics, and scientific computing Familiarity with OpenFOAM to develop and maintain codes Strong programming and analytical skills for pre-/post-processing and analysis (e.g., Pointwise, Paraview, Tecplot, MATLAB, and Python) Application Instructions
