The successful candidate: This is a Full-time Nights position where you will work 12-hour shifts Tuesday - Sunday every other week. 6 Night shifts are required while the 7th night (Monday) is an optional overtime shift available for call, but is not mandatory. The Critical Care Nurse Practitioner works under the direct supervision of an Intensivist and is responsible for providing clinical care for oncology patients and coordination of services provided by nurse practitioners in his/her section of their department. The ideal candidate will exemplify the City of Hope mission, vision, and values and act in accordance with the policies, procedures, guidelines. In this role, assessment, communication skills, and problem-solving techniques are used to deliver quality care and to facilitate physician productivity. Overall responsibilities include but are not limited to: Provides appropriate patient care for patients with hematologic and oncologic malignancies in the ICU or step-down unit, including recording patient medical history and physical assessment, developing therapeutic care plans, ordering diagnostic tests, interpreting test results, discharge planning, and providing accurate medical record documentation. Educates patients in areas of procedures, pharmacology, self-management of side effects, and available community resources. Provides symptom management for treatment-related toxicities. Facilitates communication regarding goals of care, including end-of-life decision-making. Collaborates and effectively communicates with referring physicians/clinicians and stakeholders. Complies with all hospital by-laws, rules, and regulations; has all entries in the medical record co-signed by the attending physician. Prescribes Category III and above drugs as indicated by state/federal licensing, providing orders under supervision of a physician during assigned “on call” duty. Performs rounds in Infusion Center or Inpatient Unit and writes progress notes as appropriate or instructed by MD and manager. Orders medication and develops treatment and evaluations with supervising physician, acting as liaison between patient, RNs, and physicians. Minimum Requirements Master's degree in Nursing, specialty in related field Current Georgia RN license and Georgia Advanced Practice-NP licenses required. National Board certification by the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) ACLS (if not AHA, must obtain AHA certification within 30 days of hire) BLS (if not AHA, must obtain AHA certification within 30 days of hire) ONS certification (optional) AOCNP (optional) Minimum Experience Required Strong medical skills within critical situations (triage) Ability to perform duties and manage time and tasks to enable completion of daily work duties Discerns when advice is needed and obtains information from Manager Prioritizes goals and manages time with strong attention to detail City of Hope is an equal opportunity employer.
