Lutheran Hospital’s 5D Unit cares for a variety of post-operative patients in orthopaedics, spine, neurology and bariatrics. Procedures include total joint replacements, lumbar and/or cervical decompressions, fusions, and laminectomies. The unit also treats general med/surg patients and is capable of telemetry and ongoing cardiac monitoring. The nursing team is known for quick patient turnover and strong patient education. As an Assistant Nurse Manager, you will monitor the daily clinical operations of your department and oversee RNs, LPNs, MAs and other patient care providers to ensure high-quality nursing care. A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. or 11:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Provide direction and support to the unit staff, supervise admissions, assess patient needs, and initiate nursing care plans. Evaluate and document patient progress. Facilitate planning, implementation, development, and evaluation of nursing programs, initiatives, and objectives for the unit. Assist with development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective health services, and serve as a liaison between the manager, staff, and other areas within the organization. Identify and resolve issues affecting delivery of patient care services in the unit. Prepare work schedules to assure adequate coverage. Participate in and support quality improvement projects, outcomes studies and research initiatives. Participate in department committees as assigned. Assist in orienting new personnel, continuing education, and in-service educational programs. Minimum qualifications for the ideal candidate include: Graduated from an accredited school of professional nursing. Bachelor's degree in Nursing. Strong clinical knowledge and skills. Good oral, written and interpersonal skills; strong analytical and organizational skills. Current state licensure as Registered Nurse (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA). Two years of recent clinical nurse experience. Our caregivers continue to create the best outcomes for our patients. Physical Requirements: Requires full range of motion, ability to handle and lift patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extended periods. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids. Medium work - exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, and up to negligible to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work. Personal Protective Equipment: Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
