Teacher of Theatre OR Speech and Dramatics Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the School Director, the Speech and Drama teacher is responsible for helping students learn the listening and speaking skills behind public speaking through speech and drama. This is a speech and theatre teaching position in grades 9-12. In addition to teaching public speaking courses and theatre electives, the position is expected to direct two mainstage theatre productions each year. Essential Functions A drama teacher educates students in different acting styles, methods, and techniques. Responsibilities may include creating lesson plans, teaching about plays and the history of drama, assisting students in creating their own dramatic pieces, organizing and managing the learning environment, directing performance rehearsals, helping to assemble and manage lighting and sets, and assessing students' performance. Additional Duties Performs other related tasks as assigned by the School Director and other central office administrators as designated by the CEO. Equipment Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone. Travel Requirements Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Working as a drama teacher requires flexibility, determination, and lots of energy. Dedication to the task at hand and a love of your job will serve you well. Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed. Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards Works in standard office and school building environments. Qualifications Profile Certification/License: NJ Standard, CEAS, or CE as a Teacher of Speech and Dramatics (Endorsement #1451 OR #1440). Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation. Education: Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment. Masters Degree preferred. Experience: Candidates preferably will have had prior college-level theatrical performing/directing experience.
