High School/Middle School - Drama Director
Directing and Producing: Select and direct the school's theatrical productions. This involves holding auditions, casting roles, running rehearsals, and managing all production elements such as lighting, sound, costumes, and sets.
Curriculum and Instruction: Teach drama and theater classes, which may include acting, stagecraft, public speaking, and theater history. The director develops lesson plans and assesses student performance to ensure the curriculum aligns with educational standards.
Program Management: Manage the theater program's budget, secure rights for performances, and coordinate with other school departments and parent organizations. They are also responsible for promoting the shows to the school and local community.
Student Mentorship: Mentor students in various theater disciplines, helping them develop skills in acting, singing, dancing, and technical theater. The director provides a supportive environment that encourages creativity, collaboration, and personal growth.
Collaboration: Work with a team of students, faculty, and parent volunteers to execute productions. This includes collaborating with music directors, choreographers, and technical crew to ensure a cohesive and successful show.
Education: A bachelor's degree in Theater, Drama, or a related field is preferred. Teaching certification is also preferred.
Experience: Previous experience in directing, producing, or performing in theatrical productions. Experience working with high school-aged students is highly desirable.
Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills. The ability to manage a budget, schedule, and multiple projects simultaneously is essential. A passion for theater and a commitment to student education are crucial for success in this role.
