About the Division Since 1989, TTUHSC Managed Care has served as a healthcare delivery service, providing high quality, low cost healthcare to patients within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice system. We provide medical, mental health, and dental services to patients in 22 facilities throughout West Texas. Managed Care emphasizes our values-based culture in all we do.

Position Description Employees in this position are responsible for augmenting a supervising physician's data gathering abilities to reach decisions and institute patient care plans. Provides health care services to patients under direction and responsibility of a Physician.

Major/Essential Functions

Clinical Assessment & Management

Conduct thorough clinical interviews and assessments with inmates, ensuring documentation is completed daily.

Provide outpatient mental health care for inmates with severe mental illness or those considered high-risk.

Write clinical assessments based on sound, balanced judgment.

Manage referrals to medical and mental health providers as needed.

Facilitate and document releases from Crisis Development Observation (CDO), Mental Health Observation (MHO), and Behavioral Health Follow-up (BHF) referrals.

Risk & Safety Management

Identify and manage risks related to inmate mental health during all interactions.

Report threats or concerns (e.g., Offender Protection Investigations or safety threats) to security staff per Safe Prisons Plan.

Prioritize tasks with a focus on risk management.

Compliance & Documentation

Maintain accurate inmate/patient reminders and records.

Complete all required documentation by close of business each day.

Adhere to all TDCJ Health Services, ACA, TTUHSC, and Outpatient Behavioral Health guidelines.

Productivity & Professional Standards

Meet or exceed monthly productivity goals set by the Behavioral Health Management Team.

Respond professionally to supervision, accepting and applying feedback constructively.

Keep supervisors informed of relevant clinical and administrative issues.

Professional Development

Attend trainings and read relevant materials to enhance clinical skills.

Use professional development funds for licensure renewal and continuing education.

Occasional Duties

Provide telehealth services to other units as assigned.

Perform unit-specific and marginal duties as assigned by supervisors or regional leadership.

Required Qualifications Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association. Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants.

OR

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas Board of Nursing. Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer certification to Texas.

Preferred Qualifications

Psych experience for Physician Assistant preferred.

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Certification required.

Correctional or Inpatient experience preferred but not required.
