The Arabic Family and Community Liaison serves as a vital link between Arabic-speaking students, families, school staff, and the community. This position strengthens communication, cultural understanding, and collaboration, ensuring that Arabic-speaking families are informed, welcomed, and supported in accessing educational opportunities within the Springfield Public Schools (SPS). The liaison promotes family engagement, removes language barriers, and fosters positive relationships that contribute to student success and a strong school–home partnership.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Facilitate Communication: Serve as a liaison between Arabic-speaking families, students, and school staff regarding educational programs, services, and student progress. Provide Outreach and Support: Assist families in resolving issues related to attendance, academics, behavior, and overall well-being by connecting them with appropriate school and community resources. Cultural and Linguistic Access: Translate and interpret oral and written communications between Arabic and English to ensure families have full access to school information and district services. Family Engagement: Meet with and interview parents to identify educational goals, family needs, and barriers to participation; collaborate on strategies that promote student achievement. Resource Connection: Refer families to community agencies and district services that provide academic, social, or health support. Information and Guidance: Serve as a knowledgeable resource for parents, teachers, and staff regarding school programs, attendance expectations, and available supports for multilingual learners. Documentation: Maintain accurate communication logs, meeting notes, and records while adhering to confidentiality requirements. Collaboration: Partner with administrators, teachers, and support staff to strengthen culturally responsive family engagement and improve home–school communication. Technology and Office Support: Use computers and district software to prepare correspondence, maintain records, and assist with parent communication platforms. Professional Standards: Maintain consistent attendance, meet deadlines, and represent the district in a professional and welcoming manner.
Qualifications
Demonstrated oral and written proficiency in Arabic and English (fluency verification required). Knowledge of cultural and community needs of Arabic-speaking families. General understanding of public school systems and student/family engagement practices. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and maintain confidentiality. High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Demonstrated proficiency with computers. Valid Massachusetts driver’s license.

Position Type: Full-Time, 10-Month Work Year: School Year (with some evening and weekend hours as needed for family engagement events) Salary: Commensurate with experience and in accordance with district guidelines
