Here’s what you need to know: Our middle school is seeking awe-inspiring teachers to guide our students as they climb the mountain to college and beyond. Our teachers are dynamic leaders both in and outside of their classroom. They love students, working with families and the community they serve.

Here’s what you’ll be doing: The Middle School Physical Education Teacher designs, implements, and assesses a dynamic physical education program that:

Promotes student health, fitness, and motor skills development

Fosters a classroom culture of inclusion, rigor, and joy

Aligns with state standards and KIPP’s expectations for growth

Integrates character development, teamwork, and leadership

This role works within the broader mission of KIPP to prepare students academically and socially for success in high school, college, and beyond.

Key Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum

Plan and deliver standards-aligned PE lessons (e.g. Florida State Standards, National Standards for Physical Education)

Use a progression of units (fitness, sports, movement, wellness, health) and assess student mastery

Adapt and differentiate instruction so that all students (including those with IEPs, varying ability levels) can access and succeed

Use data (fitness testing, formative assessments, observations) to inform instruction and intervene when students struggle

Provide timely feedback to students on performance, progress, and areas for growth

Culture & Classroom Management

Establish clear routines, procedures, and expectations for safety, transitions, and student behavior in the gym, field, or outdoor space

Uphold the school’s culture and values (e.g. student accountability, respect, personal responsibility)

Model and teach social-emotional skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership

Foster a classroom environment where every student feels physically and emotionally safe, valued, and challenged

Collaboration & School Engagement

Collaborate with grade-level teams, other specialty teachers, and general classrooms to integrate physical education with cross-curricular goals (e.g. science of movement, math in sport)

Communicate with families about student progress, fitness goals, and ways to support healthy habits at home

Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school-wide culture planning

Support and supervise field days, interscholastic events, after-school sports or clubs, and safety protocols

Coordinate with school operations (facility scheduling, equipment maintenance, safety checks)

Professional Growth & Accountability

Engage in coaching cycles, peer observations, and feedback to continuously improve instructional practice

Use a growth mindset: reflect on lesson outcomes, try new strategies, revise plans

Stay current in best practices in physical education, inclusive PE, adaptive PE, and health & wellness education

Contribute to school goals (academic, fitness, culture, student growth metrics)

Qualifications Must Haves

A belief in every student’s limitless potential

Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or related field

Valid Florida educator certification or ability to become certified in Physical Education

Demonstrated experience (or strong internship/student teaching) designing and delivering quality PE instruction

Strong classroom management skills, especially in active, movement-based settings

Capacity to adapt instruction to diverse learners (typical & special education)

Excellent communication skills (students, families, colleagues)

Commitment to working with students from underserved communities and belief in their limitless potential

Preferred

Experience in a charter, urban, or high-expectation school environment

Knowledge of health and wellness education, nutrition, and behavior change strategies

Experience coaching or leading extracurricular sports or fitness clubs

Familiarity with technology tools for assessment, tracking fitness data, or blended instruction

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Ability to move, demonstrate, and model physical activities (running, jumping, lifting up to 25-50 lbs of equipment, bending, standing for prolonged periods)

Work indoors (gym, multipurpose rooms) and outdoors (fields, courts) under varying weather conditions

May require early arrival, late departure, and occasional weekend commitments for events

Frequent supervision of students in active, dynamic settings

Compensation & Benefits In addition to a competitive salary, KIPP Miami offers a full comprehensive benefits plan, including health care, retirement, a school laptop. The starting salary is $55,550 and increases with years of experience.
