Assistant Dean for Career and Professional Development

Overview
Manage the Office of Career and Professional Development (OCPD) staff while staying abreast of the legal job market and identifying ways to increase employment opportunities for law students and alumni. Responsibilities
Manage and motivate Team members to achieve specified goals. Develop and implement outreach efforts and recruitment of legal employers (traditional and non-traditional) Devise, plan and announce innovative programming to present day/evening/weekend seminars to students (including 1L career services orientation) on all aspects of job search and career development. Prepare written materials on all aspects of job search and career development. Maintain and use knowledge of OCPD services to assist students, alumni, and employers. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legal job market and anticipate employment trends. Assess needs of students and alumni. Set goals for OCPD and each Team member. Establish office policies and procedures. Conduct outreach to potential employers. Counsel JD and LLM students and alumni on job search strategies and career development, including, resume writing, interviewing, networking, negotiating salaries, and other career related issues. Review and edit resumes, cover letters, personal statements and thank you letters. Coordinate administration of programs with other departments and student groups. Participate in accepted student receptions. Meet with prospective students at the request of Admissions Office. Coordinate with Director of Externship Programs as it relates to placements. Track and prepare statistical information on job placement for reporting purposes including: ABA surveys, NALP surveys, on-campus interviews, etc. Serve on committees and work groups as requested. Serve as a liaison with bar associations and other professional organizations. Assist in devising marketing materials for prospective students and employers. Assist in conducting mock interviews. Maintain counseling records of student interactions. Attend faculty meetings and events and receptions at the law school. Participate in local bar association activities and events. Other duties as assigned by the Dean. Qualifications
Education/Experience Juris Doctor degree required Admission to New York State Bar or any other State bar Prior experience in private law firm, government or public interest organization Knowledge of the legal marketplace Recruiting experience required Managerial experience required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Excellent organization skills and attention to detail Excellent written and oral communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills Preferred Qualifications
Employment counseling experience Familiarity with Symplicity Career Services Management System Travel

Sitting and StandingExtensive use of computers Maximum Salary USD $140,676.00/Yr. Minimum Salary USD $112,540.00/Yr.
