The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR) regulates a large and complex insurance market and offers opportunities for career growth, professional development, and educational assistance through the state tuition waiver program.
Brief Description of Duties and Responsibilities: This position is part of OIR’s Application Unit which analyzes licensing applications and corporate amendment applications of insurers. The primary duties include:
Analyze and recommend approval or disapproval of non-domestic licensing applications for Florida certificate of authority.
Analyze and recommend approval or disapproval of Prepaid Limited Health Service Organization and Discount Plan Organization applications.
Analyze and recommend approval or disapproval of Health Maintenance Organization and Prepaid Health Clinic applications.
Analyze and recommend approval or disapproval of domestic Life and Health Companies and Health Maintenance Organizations acquisitions.
Analyze and recommend approval or disapproval of Administrator applications for certificate of authority.
Assess proposed changes in laws and regulations and provide impact analysis.
Answer questions and handle complaints from licensees and consumers.
Monitor information systems and implement modifications.
Process public record requests related to assigned companies.
Participate in training courses to improve skills.
Minimum Qualifications for this position include the following REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of accounting, auditing, data collection and analysis; basic management principles.
Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data to develop recommendations and solve problems.
Problem‑solving, planning, organization, coordination of work assignments.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Conduct investigations and fact‑finding research; organize data for reports.
Develop and oversee analysis procedures.
Basic computer hardware/software; proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting, insurance, finance, or actuarial science. Preferred experience in insurance regulation, financial analysis, public accounting, or similar with specialization in the insurance industry.
Salary:
Starting annual salary $50,000.04
Hours:
8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. This is a non‑remote on‑site position located in Tallahassee, FL.

Security background check including fingerprint is a condition of employment.
