Overview
The Tennessee-Western Kentucky Conference of the United Methodist Church is seeking a dedicated and mission-minded Controller to join our leadership team. This vital role ensures the financial health, transparency, and accountability of the Conference, serving both as a financial steward and as a partner in ministry with clergy, laity, and churches. As Controller, you will guide the Conference’s financial operations, implement best practices, and provide critical insights that support strategic decision-making. You will oversee accounting, budgeting, audits, reporting, internal controls, and compliance, all while ensuring alignment with GAAP standards and United Methodist practices. | Nashville, TN (Hybrid) Responsibilities
Lead all aspects of financial reporting, analysis, and recordkeeping. Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow to ensure fiscal responsibility. Oversee annual audits and maintain strong internal controls. Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit regulations, and United Methodist standards. Supervise accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, payroll tax reporting, and fixed asset management. Collaborate with committees, clergy, and staff to provide financial guidance and support. Serve as a trusted partner to the Conference Treasurer and administrative team. Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA preferred. Experience: Minimum 8 years of finance/accounting experience (nonprofit experience strongly preferred); audit experience required. Skills: Deep knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting practices; strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills; high integrity with ability to handle confidential information. Proficiency with accounting software (Shelby Systems experience a plus), Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; familiarity with United Methodist structure preferred. Work Environment
Hybrid position based out of our Nashville, TN office, requiring in-office attendance on specified days. Candidates must live within a commutable distance of Nashville to fulfill the hybrid schedule. Some overnight travel is required. Collaborative, mission-driven team environment. Annual salary range: $100,000-$120,000 commiserate with experience. Benefits
