Job Summary: Under the direction of the ADRC Director, the Elder Benefit Specialist is responsible for assisting individuals aged 60 and over who are having a problem with their private and government benefits. They will assist the individual determine what benefits they are entitled to and what they must do to receive them. The Elder Benefit Specialist provides various outreach and public information services to individuals aged 60 and over to inform them of new programs, services or changes to current services. Essential Duties and Responsibilities : -Advises, advocates for and counsels individuals aged 60 and over on various benefit programs including financial, medical, housing, fuel, insurance or other programs/services. Schedules home visits to potential or existing clients who are homebound. Explains and provides information concerning program features, requirements, and program options. -Assists clients in the completion of various applications for benefits for which they may be entitled. This includes obtaining verifications required to complete applications. -Explains, informs and addresses general questions of family members and the public concerning benefits, their requirements and provisions with respect to confidentiality to specific circumstances. -Performs various public relation activities to educate the public concerning benefits programs and services geared for individuals aged 60 and over. Makes presentations and provides information to the elderly at various congregate dining sites and addresses their questions, concerns and issues pertaining to various benefit programs. Prepares news articles, speaks on radio programs, or makes presentations before various community groups to explain program services and benefits available to individuals age 60 and over. -Maintains current record of client contacts and services provided in SAMS. Record 100%-time reporting and submit within guidelines. -Makes appropriate referrals according to E.B.S. guidelines when issues are outside of the scope of appropriate services. -Attends required regional trainings and maintains current knowledge of program changes. -Performs other duties of a comparable level/type, as required.

Work Requirements

: -Bachelor's Degree in Health or Human Services or related field.

- Knowledge of public assistance programs, benefits and services for individuals aged 60 and over including medical assistance, financial assistance, housing assistance, fuel assistance, etc. -Knowledge of other community resources. -Knowledge of the use and operation of various information systems and programs used in case management functions for public assistance and medical assistance programs for the elderly. -Fundamentals of outreach and public information procedures and processes of the department/county in promoting aging and benefit programs and services.
