General Summary & Scope The Assistant Services Manager (ASM) is responsible for leading through Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values to develop a high-performing team that delivers sales growth in hair and skin services. The ASM supports the Experience Manager (EM) in leading a team of stylists and estheticians and is accountable for all aspects of the services business, including services and merchandise sales, events around hair and skin, guest satisfaction, and operational excellence while also working behind the chair providing services to guests in the salon. This leader focuses on performance (service sales and productivity), people (guest experience and associate culture), and process (operating procedures and compliance standards). This role requires drive for results, passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, the ability to lead and influence, and the aptitude to learn and teach service technique and product knowledge.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions) The ASM is a champion of Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values and should demonstrate them skillfully and consistently by performing the following duties and responsibilities (as well as other projects/duties as assigned):

Performance

Perform salon hair services, makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations with guests.

Achieve individual productivity goals each week.

Promote a culture of accountability to meet or exceed the store’s goals related to service and merchandise sales, guest loyalty (including credit), payroll, omnichannel, and retail shrink as set by Ulta Beauty for the store.

Drive company profitability through operational excellence, top-line sales growth, and expense control.

Support the planning and execution of services events that deliver an unrivaled guest experience, drive brand partner collaboration, and meet sales and payroll goals.

Review, analyze, and react to Ulta Beauty’s financial and operational reporting, including services visits and audit results, regularly and in a timely manner.

Address underperforming metrics related to the store’s service sales and develop strategies using company programs, tools, and resources to improve and grow these areas.

Stay informed on new and existing industry trends, products, and services; be knowledgeable about ingredients and benefits to better serve guests.

Maintain prompt, regular attendance as the ASM and hold all services associates accountable to Ulta Beauty’s attendance policy.

People

Support attraction, hiring, and retention of a diverse team of service professionals, leveraging multiple methods including social media, and address staffing needs for the salon.

Build a highly engaged team that embodies the Ulta Beauty brand through collaboration, open communication, prioritization of work, and coaching to drive guest loyalty.

Train, coach, and develop service professionals using company programs, tools, and resources.

Create an inclusive environment that inspires growth and engagement, ensuring attendance at required training and programs.

Support all aspects of associate development, including training, feedback, coaching, succession planning, and development plans to drive sales performance.

Establish professional peer and brand partner relationships to collaboratively deliver on sales and service goals.

Promote a culture of service excellence among the leadership team by sharing best practices and providing support.

Process

Be knowledgeable of and ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards for the store.

Regularly review and react to company communications in a timely manner.

Adhere to and enforce Ulta Beauty’s dress code.

Manage salon supply inventory and the ordering process, ensuring the budget is adhered to and necessary products are on hand.

Use the company’s task management tool to prioritize and execute store workload, including product and marketing resets, pricing updates, inventory tasks, cleaning, and replenishment.

Protect company assets and minimize loss by meeting store standards and procedures, including safety, inventory control, and loss prevention.

Support continuous improvement by adopting company initiatives and technology, communicating expectations, and ensuring task execution.

Support the Experience Manager and General Manager in scheduling service associates to optimize traffic and productivity.

Job Qualifications Education

Cosmetology school graduate

Cosmetology license and/or cosmetology management license where required by state law

Experience

2–3+ years relevant, fast-paced salon management experience or other relevant work

Demonstrated knowledge of state board regulations and hiring requirements

Developing financial management: success with driving top-line sales, interpreting reporting data, managing payroll budgets, and controlling expenses

Developing leadership management: experience attracting, developing, and motivating top talent; adapting to change; leading others; building collaborative relationships

Skills

Proficiency with latest salon techniques across services and an aptitude to develop skills in all categories

Proficient with basic technology (POS, Microsoft Office, Apple devices)

Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills

Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks

Ability to react under pressure, use good judgment, and be flexible

Special Position Requirements

Work a flexible, full-time schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays

Attend corporate business meetings and conferences

Working Conditions

Continuous mobility throughout the store during shift

Frequent standing, bending, reaching, and twisting

Continuous lifting up to 10 lbs during shift

Continuous coordination and manipulation of objects

Frequent use of a computer, telephonic devices, and related office supplies

Pay range: The pay range for this position is the higher of $16.50 - $26.25 per hour or services pay, with eligibility for bonuses, overtime, and benefits as described. Full-time benefits include PTO, health, dental, vision, life, and disability. Part-time benefits include dental, vision, life, and disability.
