About the KIPP Colorado Teacher Role: The Teacher is the instructional leader of their classroom and is directly responsible for driving student outcomes and creating an exceptional student experience. Teachers drive the educational mission of KIPP Colorado schools by developing rigorous, engaging, affirming, grade-level and culturally-sustaining instruction that prepares students for multiple post-secondary opportunities, and is aligned with our academic program. The Teacher plans instruction, organizes learning activities, internalizes and intellectually prepares for lessons, grades equitably and consistently, and implements with fidelity all accommodations and modifications for students’ IEPs, BIPs, 504 Plans, ALPs, and MTSS interventions, supporting the individuality and multifaceted nature of all our students.
The Teacher at KIPP Colorado holds full responsibility for creating and cultivating a culturally responsive classroom community that is warm-demanding, including upholding school-wide expectations, managing tier 1 behaviors, and contacting families proactively and responsively. Teachers support the campus-wide community and whole school systems through active presence at daily duties, including but not limited to: arrival duty, dismissal duty, lunch duty, threshold presence at transitions, hallway/bathroom duty, and coverage for staff absences. The position is a 10-month academic position and is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position reports to a member of the school leadership team.

Role Responsibilities Professional Responsibilities

Assume personal responsibility for student achievement
Read, internalize, and adhere to the KIPP Colorado Policies and Procedures manual and guidelines
Provide an active presence, strategic supervision, and intentional monitoring to ensure student safety and engagement in rigorous learning
Take ownership for the development of your craft and engage actively in coaching sessions (meet 1-2 times every 1 or 2 weeks with a manager, receive coaching, implement feedback, etc.)
Commit to being prepared for lessons, coaching, meetings, PD, and communications
Meet professional obligations including deadlines and schedules
Leverage professional tools (Google and Microsoft suites) effectively
Maintain strong attendance and punctuality
Collaborate with colleagues and seek feedback for continuous improvement
Reflect on professional practices to meet development goals
Participate in professional development, grade level and department meetings
Engage in school-wide and org-wide professional development
Serve as a positive member of a grade or functional team and implement initiatives
Share candid, solutions-oriented feedback with peers and leadership
Assist with student and staff recruitment and engagement efforts
Be prepared to travel around Denver to other campuses and events as needed
Assist with other duties (lunch, arrival/dismissal, hallway, etc.)
Instructional Planning and Delivery
Develop standards-based instructional plans (unit plans, scope and sequences, week-at-a-glance, daily lesson plans)
Plan rigorous lessons aligned with deadlines and internalization practices
Design and implement assessments aligned with objectives
Grade student work and provide feedback and support
Use high quality materials with fidelity and use data to inform reteach/reassessment
Use data to drive instruction and adjust plans to meet learning needs
Implement IEPs, 504 Plans, ALPs, BIPs, and MTSS with fidelity, including accommodations and progress monitoring
School Culture Alignment
Establish and maintain relationships with students and families based on trust and respect
Approach practice with urgency to maximize instructional time
Maintain high expectations for academic work and classroom behavior
Establish and reinforce rules and consequences to maintain a positive classroom
Additional Responsibilities
Provide an active presence and supervision to ensure student safety and engagement in rigorous learning
Complete specialized certifications to maintain compliance (e.g., MLE, CDE literacy modules, ECE licensure, ESSA status)
Partner with leaders to ensure proper implementation of 504s, BIPs, IEPs, safety plans, accommodations, and language support
Enforce positive behavior systems and monitor behavior data
Attend designated school functions outside of school hours
Perform support duties including bus, lunch, dismissal, chaperone field trips, and participate in parent meetings
About the skills and qualifications
Bachelor's degree (required)
Spanish bilingual (preferred)
Ability and willingness to fulfill ESSA criteria (required)
At least 2 years of teaching experience (highly preferred but not required)
Ability to participate in events/activities outside typical hours (required)
Understanding of KIPP and commitment to Exceptional Student Experience
Commitment to diverse youth and cultural backgrounds
Strong organizational, written and oral communication skills
