Overview

Instructor, English-College Level - Adjunct Pool. Provide the expertise and knowledge that support the college curriculum and programs. Establish courses following accepted higher education standards, teach students using a variety of effective methodologies and provide engagement and support activities that encourage student learning. The role encompasses teaching and learning, academic advising, professional development and institutional and community service. The incumbent will teach a maximum load of (See Faculty Workload Guidelines) contact hours each semester in area(s) of competency and participate as a part-time instructor in the activities of the department, division and college. Responsibilities

Teaching: Demonstrate skill and knowledge in the teaching discipline; continually improve instruction using innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods; develop and use a syllabus for each course or laboratory and submit a copy to the department chair; plan and use a variety of teaching methods and materials to meet course objectives and accommodate diverse learning styles; evaluate students and inform them of progress in a timely manner; keep accurate student records and submit related reports; review and evaluate textbooks and learning materials; teach courses at various times/locations, including dual credit sections; teach in modalities such as face-to-face, hybrid, online (synchronous or asynchronous); use equipment responsibly and contribute to routine maintenance of instructional laboratories; demonstrate competence and interest in using technology in the classroom and explore new instructional methodologies; submit grades and attendance rosters as required. Academic Advising: Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community; provide access to students via posted office hours and electronic communication; offer advice on instructional or program-specific issues; make presentations on academic fields or programs and opportunities for transfer, work, scholarships, and services; work with the Chair/Director on advising activities as needed per college guidelines. Professional Development: Establish annual objectives for growth, keep pace with developments in the discipline, and apply innovative technologies to support student learning; participate in evaluations at self, department, and college levels. Institutional and Community Service: Participate in institutional service activities, discipline/program meetings, and college/department meetings; adhere to policies and procedures; participate in college activities, accreditation standards, budget planning, program curricula review, and articulation with secondary and post-secondary institutions. Qualifications

Education Master’s degree with 18 completed graduate hours in English required. Experience 1 year college-level teaching experience required. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Ability to work in a diverse environment Willing and able to teach day or evening classes at multiple sites Knowledge and skill in computer usage and software Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with diverse populations Strong organizational and planning skills Sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and students with disabilities Ability to inspire and motivate students in a learning-centered environment Self-discipline and ability to manage others Additional Information
