Ohio Northern University - Assistant Professor Mechanical

The College of Engineering is seeking a talented individual who is passionate about teaching and is invested in the success of our students. Our faculty members encourage students to ask questions, develop confidence in their abilities, and engage in high-impact learning opportunities such as undergraduate research. If you would like to be a part of a professional, collaborative team devoted to making a significant and lasting impact on the lives of young engineers, the Dr. Carl D. Clay and H. Jane Clay Department of Mechanical Engineering at Ohio Northern University invites you to apply for a three-year faculty position to begin August 19, 2026. Contingent on sustained enrollment in the program, extension of this position will be considered at the conclusion of the contract period. This position will support our broad undergraduate mechanical engineering program, which, in addition to a general Mechanical Engineering track, includes concentration options in Aerospace, Automotive, Biomedical, Manufacturing, Sustainability, and Robotics. Candidates from any specialty area within or adjacent to mechanical engineering or our concentration fields will be considered. The candidate’s application letter should specifically address how the candidate meets the stated needs of our position within our undergraduate-serving institution. Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate courses including introductory engineering courses (e.g., Foundation of Design, Statics, Strength of Material) as well as upper-level mechanical engineering courses. Commit to teaching excellence in undergraduate education and to cultivating a sense of community for students, faculty, and staff. Engage in professional development opportunities and contribute to the entrepreneurial mindset in undergraduate engineering students. Required Skills

Industry experience and teaching experience. Professional licensure, and the ability to teach both introductory and advanced courses are viewed favorably. Commitment to advancing the knowledge and practice of engineering education pedagogy. Appointment at the Assistant Professor level; this is not a tenure-track position. Minimum Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, or adjacent fields such as Materials, Aerospace, Biomedical, Robotics, or Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field such as Engineering Education (with a prior degree in mechanical engineering) or a MS degree with significant, relevant industry experience is required. ABD is acceptable, but degree requirements must be completed before the date of employment. ONU is an equal employment opportunity employer.
