Postdoctoral Scholar-1
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio, United States, 43224
Overview
We are inviting applications for 2 postdoctoral positions in our laboratory at The Ohio State University, Wexner Medical Center, Department of Neurology & Neuroscience Research Institute. Our lab focuses on axon-glia interactions and how glial metabolism regulates axon integrity and myelination (e.g., Nature Neuroscience, PMID 32807950; Nature Neuroscience, PMID 25195104; PNAS, PMID 28484008). Current projects include in vivo and in vitro mechanistic studies on how metabolic perturbations in oligodendrocytes affect axon integrity, and research on metabolic adaptations in Schwann cells/oligodendrocytes that support injured axon survival. The Post Doctoral Researcher will pursue specialized research training under the guidance of a scientific mentor in the Department of Neurology; plan, design and execute experiments of considerable scope and complexity in the assigned research lab; collect and analyze data for research sponsored by appropriate agencies and institutions; identify and select problems to be studied; develop and troubleshoot new experimental techniques and protocols; attend research seminars; contribute to manuscript preparation and support technical writing; participate in preparation of grant applications for extramural funding; perform additional duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
Plan, design and execute experiments of considerable scope and complexity in the assigned research lab. Collect and analyze data for research sponsored by appropriate agencies and institutions. Identify and select problems to be studied; develop and troubleshoot new experimental techniques and protocols. Attend research seminars; contribute to manuscript preparation and support technical writing. Participate in preparation of grant applications for extramural funding. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
PhD in biomedical sciences required; less than 3 years of prior post-doctoral experience. Demonstrated outstanding performance throughout previous studies with publications. Highly motivated with good communication skills; strong language and writing abilities. Background check required; successful completion of a pre-employment physical including a drug screen may be requested.
