Position Summary
Our company is hiring for an
Early Childhood Teacher
to join our team. As an
Early Childhood Teacher , the ideal candidate provides a safe and nurturing environment for children that encourages their social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development. In collaboration with the Demonstration School director and the lead teacher, design and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum according to the guidelines and key elements established by UWM and NAEYC.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Teacher/Child Interactions:
Provide experiences that build on children's prior experiences by drawing on their curiosity and encouraging children to come up with their own questions, theories and hypotheses.
Encourage and model appropriate behavior and expectations.
Be attentive, flexible, and supportive of children and the families.
Practice positive discipline techniques.
Capitalize on opportunities to help children build vocabulary by asking follow-up questions to gain deeper understanding.
Program:
In collaboration with Mentor Teachers, design and implement a reflective curriculum, materials, experiences, and environments on a daily basis that balance and support a childs learning.
Observe, document, and manage all aspects of the data-gathering process for each childs development.
Use observations to plan for the individual and group needs of children.
Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and respect toward people of diverse backgrounds.
Design a thoughtful classroom environment to optimize small and large group interactions, social learning, and constructive play.
Analyze and interpret the learning process and share findings with colleagues and children.
Demonstrate knowledge of Head Start performance standards and Educare model.
Seek clarification on any IEP or IFSP goals to follow the plan appropriately when applicable.
Serve as a mentor for teachers of other programs.
Follow a reflective planning cycle: observe and reflect; document and reflect; reflect, discuss, and plan; implement and reflect; partner with families in reflective planning.
Faculty/Parent Interactions:
Acknowledge and respond to all parents and visitors in a friendly, courteous, and professional demeanor.
Communicate daily with families, including conferences, events, and meetings.
Share resources with parents.
Schedule, develop plans, and conduct home visits in collaboration with Family Engagement Staff.
Discuss child development and progress during home visits and parent/teacher conferences.
Maintain confidentiality and engage parents in ongoing communication about development screenings and assessments.
Implement the touchpoint guiding principles and assumptions.
Use Of Data:
Utilize data to individualize instruction and create action plans as needed.
Engage parents with ongoing communication about screenings and assessments and provide activities based on assessment results.
Review overall summary scores, subscales, and individual items from screenings and assessments.
Create plans based on data to support individual children in areas of strength, typical development, or need.
Leadership:
Lead the team in developing classroom goals and action plans.
Ensure daily responsibilities are completed and tasks are shared.
Implement reflective supervision with the teaching team.
Health/Safety/Nutrition:
Supervise children, follow safety and health rules, and monitor the number of children in the group at all times.
Keep the environment safe, organized, and accessible to children.
Maintain a safe and healthy classroom environment and ensure equipment, furniture, materials, and supplies are properly maintained.
Complete appropriate documentation to report incidents and accidents.
Professionalism:
Stay current with trends and research in early childhood education.
Demonstrate knowledge and flexibility in child care practices with ongoing professional growth.
Attend required meetings/trainings and be punctual.
Protect the confidentiality of children; do not share information about a child or family with other staff members.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Teamwork:
Establish cooperative relationships, maintain confidentiality, and participate in classroom and Center events.
Be open to communication and collaboration at all times.
Decision-Making Authority:
May take action, but must inform the Director or Master Teacher when caring for a child with a significant injury, acknowledge and listen to a parents concern, report neglect or abuse, or record an unusual incident.
Bilingual preferred.
Technology Requirements:
Knowledge of modern web browsers; intermediate Word; beginning Excel and Outlook.
Other Essential Knowledge/Skills:
Flexibility; understanding concepts around Visible Thinking, Multiple Intelligence, Dual Language, Inclusion, Early Literacy strategies, and Reflective Supervision.
Education & Experience
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, or early childhood special education that encompasses child development and learning from birth through kindergarten; family and community relationships; observing, documenting, and assessing young children.
Infant/Toddler CDA. 45 CDS hours / 15 in-service hours per year.
