United Way Miami is hiring an Early Childhood Lead Teacher to join our team. The role involves providing a safe and nurturing environment for children that encourages social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development. The ideal candidate collaborates with the Demonstration School director and lead teacher to design and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum according to the guidelines and key elements established by UWM and NAEYC. Salary and location Salary Range: $41,209.00 – $48,619.00 annually Work address: Center for Excellence in Early Education, 3250 SW 3 Ave., Miami, FL 33129 Responsibilities
Teacher/Child Interactions: provide experiences that build on children’s prior experiences by drawing on curiosity and encouraging questions, theories, and hypotheses; model appropriate behavior; be attentive, flexible, and supportive of children and families; practice positive discipline; help children build vocabulary through follow-up questions. Program: in collaboration with Mentor Teachers, design and implement a reflective curriculum, materials, experiences, and environments daily; observe, document, and manage data collection for each child’s development; use observations to plan for individual and group needs; demonstrate cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse backgrounds; create a thoughtful classroom environment to optimize interactions and constructive play; analyze and interpret learning progress and share with colleagues and children; demonstrate knowledge of Head Start performance standards and the Educare model; support IEP/IFSP goals as needed; mentor teachers in other programs; follow a reflective planning cycle with observation, documentation, reflection, and planning; partner with families in reflective planning. Faculty/Parent Interactions: engage with parents and visitors professionally; communicate daily with families (conferences, events, meetings); share resources; conduct home visits in collaboration with Family Engagement Staff; discuss child development and progress with families; maintain confidentiality and involve parents in ongoing development screenings and assessments. Use of Data: use data to individualize instruction and create action plans; communicate screening and assessment results to families and provide development activities based on those results; review summary scores and subscale data; create plans to support individual children in areas of strength or need. Leadership: lead the team in developing classroom goals and action plans; ensure daily responsibilities are completed and shared; implement reflective supervision with the teaching team. Health/Safety/Nutrition: supervise children, maintain safety and health rules, monitor group size, and keep the environment safe and organized; maintain classroom equipment and documentation for incidents and accidents. Professionalism: stay informed about trends in early childhood, demonstrate flexible child care practices, attend required meetings/trainings, protect confidentiality of children and families. Teamwork: foster cooperation, respect, and confidentiality; participate in center events; communicate and collaborate openly. Decision-Making Authority: May take action in certain situations but must inform the Director or Mentor Teacher for significant incidents and concerns. Requirements
Education : Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, or related field; related training includes infant/toddler CDA; 45 DCF hours/15 in-service hours per year; bilingual preferred. Technology : Knowledge of modern web browsers, MS Word (intermediate), Excel (beginner), Outlook (beginner). Other Essential Knowledge/Skills : Flexibility; understanding of Visible Thinking, Multiple Intelligences, Dual Language, Inclusion, early literacy strategies, and Reflective Supervision.
