The Manager of Major Gifts is responsible for advancing the philanthropic mission of ACH Child and Family Services. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this position focuses on strategizing, developing, and implementing individual major gift initiatives, including blended gifts and bequests. The role requires exceptional relationship-building skills and cultural sensitivity to the agency’s diverse service population. Description
Position Function
:
The Manager of Major Gifts is responsible for advancing the philanthropic mission of ACH Child and Family Services. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this position focuses on strategizing, developing, and implementing individual major gift initiatives, including blended gifts and bequests. The role requires exceptional relationship-building skills and cultural sensitivity to the agency’s diverse service population.
Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree preferred. Relevant experience in general fundraising, with a strong emphasis on individual major giving.
Experience Requirements:
Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated fundraising experience (5 years preferred), including securing major philanthropic gifts. Proven ability to develop and implement strategies that meet or exceed annual fundraising goals. Strong leadership, communication and collaboration skills. Experience using donor management or CRM software is required; familiarity with Bloomerang is a plus.
Functional Requirements
This position requires an outgoing, relationship-focused personality with the ability to engage a wide variety of constituents. Exceptional customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills (both written and verbal.) Highly organized, detailed-oriented, and self-motivated with the ability to multi-task and work independently. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Skilled in database utilization and donor tracking. Demonstrates initiative, professionalism, and discretion in handling confidential information. Team-oriented, yet capable of individual contribution to department and organizational goals. Ability to analyze data, manage relationships, and influence outcomes effectively.
Working Conditions
Primarily office-based with heavy computer and database use and administrative tasks such as writing proposals and stewardship letters and updates. Must have reliable transportation for attending donor meetings, events, and other functions. Flexibility required for occasional evening and weekend work. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds (e.g., files, office supplies.)

Must maintain strict confidentiality regarding donor, client, personnel, and volunteer records. Expected to uphold the principles outlined in the Donor Bill of Rights.
Key Expectations/Responsibilities
Identify, cultivate, and solicit potential major gift donors ($5,000+), utilizing targeted action plans and engaging leadership and volunteers as appropriate. Develop and communicate strategic partnership opportunities within the community to advance the agency’s mission. Draft compelling donor proposals, solicitation materials, and stewardship communications. Design and implement strategies to achieve individual fundraising goals, including personal solicitations. Manage all aspects of the major giving program, including annual and capital campaign goals. Maintain a portfolio of major donors and prospects, ensuring regular engagement and measurable giving outcomes. Support additional development initiatives and special projects as assigned. Remain current with trends in philanthropy, planned giving, and donor relations through training and professional networks.
