Southern Avenue Charter Elementary School of Academic Excellence and Creative Arts is seeking a Physical Education Coach / Athletic Director to plan, organize, and deliver a comprehensive physical education program that promotes physical fitness, healthy habits, teamwork, and positive sportsmanship. The Athletic Director component involves overseeing extracurricular athletic programs, managing resources, and coordinating events and teams to enhance student engagement through sports and physical activity.

Position Summary The Elementary Physical Education (PE) Coach / Athletic Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering a comprehensive physical education program that promotes physical fitness, healthy habits, teamwork, and positive sportsmanship. Additionally, the Athletic Director component of the role involves overseeing extracurricular athletic programs, managing resources, and coordinating events and teams that enhance student engagement through sports and physical activity.
Key Responsibilities Physical Education Coach Duties:
Develop and implement age-appropriate physical education lessons aligned with district, state, and national standards.
Promote physical fitness, motor skills development, and knowledge of healthy lifestyles.
Create a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment for all students.
Assess and report student progress in physical development and participation.
Adapt curriculum and instruction for students with varying abilities and needs.
Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to integrate movement and health education into the school day.
Maintain equipment and ensure safety protocols are followed during physical activities.
Athletic Director Duties:
Coordinate and oversee all elementary-level athletic programs, clubs, and after-school sports activities.
Recruit, train, and supervise volunteer coaches or staff for athletic events.
Schedule games, practices, and use of facilities; ensure all events are staffed and organized.
Communicate with parents, staff, and community partners about athletic opportunities and expectations.
Ensure compliance with district policies, state regulations, and athletic association guidelines.
Monitor budgets and manage inventory of sports equipment and uniforms.
Promote student participation in athletics and ensure equitable opportunities for all.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Education, or related field (required).
Valid TN Teaching Certification with endorsement in Physical Education (required).
Experience teaching physical education and/or managing athletic programs (preferred).
CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification (required or willingness to obtain).
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to foster a positive and inclusive environment for all students.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in both indoor gymnasium and outdoor field environments.
Requires physical stamina and the ability to demonstrate physical activities.
Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required for athletic events.
