Position Overview The Physical Education (PE) Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging, standards-based physical education lessons for students in elementary through middle school (Grades PreK–8). The teacher promotes lifelong fitness, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles while fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement a comprehensive PE curriculum aligned with DC state standards and Center City PCS objectives.
Provide age‑appropriate instruction that promotes physical fitness, motor skills development, and healthy habits.
Incorporate lessons on teamwork, sportsmanship, and emotional well‑being into physical activities.
Ensure all students are engaged and challenged, adapting lessons for varying ability levels.
Maintain a safe and organized gym and outdoor activity space, following all safety procedures.
Track and assess student progress, providing feedback to students and families as needed.
Collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff to integrate physical education into broader student learning and wellness initiatives.
Lead or support schoolwide events such as field days, wellness programs, and after‑school activities.
Model professionalism, positivity, and a growth mindset within the school community.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Strong communication and classroom management skills.
Demonstrated ability to motivate and engage students of all ages and abilities.
Commitment to Center City PCS’s mission and values.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Health, Kinesiology, or a related field.
Prior experience teaching or coaching children in urban school settings.
Valid DC teaching certification or eligibility to obtain one.
CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
