Job Description This class is responsible for operations of the F. Wayne Hill Water Reclamation Facility (wastewater). The incumbent will prepare reports, assist with long range planning, and supervise employees. This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Gwinnett County Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace.

Essential Duties

Oversee the day-to-day operations of the facility to include supervising employees, interpret lab results, maintain compliance with applicable regulations, and assist with setting targets and budget preparation.

Leadership & Team Development – Provide direction, mentorship, and support to an 8-member operations team, while also managing contractors and consultants. Build a strong culture of safety, accountability, and excellence. Develop and mentor team members to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations.

Operations & Maintenance – Oversee daily performance of solids handling processes to ensure reliability, optimization, and permit compliance. Partner closely with Maintenance to address issues proactively.

Engineering & Process Optimization – Collaborate with Plant Engineering on troubleshooting, process improvements, and capital upgrades that enhance efficiency and long-term sustainability.

Asset Management – Ensure preventive maintenance (PMs) are executed, corrective maintenance (CMs) is addressed, and assets are managed effectively for maximum lifecycle performance.

Process Control & SCADA – Monitor and operate the Solids Handling SCADA system, ensuring accurate performance tracking, alarms, and system reliability.

Compliance & Reporting – Ensure accurate data capture and reporting through Hach Wims for regulatory compliance and performance benchmarking.

Strategic Impact – Support development of SOPs, process controls, and long-term strategies to advance energy recovery, biosolids reuse, and nutrient recovery goals.

Serve as a liaison with other departments, contractors, and the general public regarding public utility facility issues.

Prepare reports of daily activity.

Assist team members with running equipment and conducting laboratory tests.

Purchase supplies and equipment.

Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Other Job Requirements/Information

This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing.

This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after hours, weekends, and/or holidays.

Grade The grade for this position is

C43(2) . Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma, or G.E.D.;

Valid Driver's license from state of residency;

Five (5) years of water treatment or wastewater experience, some of which must be in a supervisory capacity;

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job;

Class I certification/license in water/wastewater (must attach to application for consideration).
