Overview
Instructor Fire Protection Technology - Adjunct Pool. Houston Community College (HCC) seeks part‑time adjunct instructors to support the Fire Protection Technology program. The incumbent teaches in accordance with college and program standards, provides student engagement and support, and participates in department, college, and community service activities as a member of the instructional faculty. Responsibilities
Teach courses or laboratories in Fire Protection Technology in accordance with college, discipline, and departmental guidelines; develop and use a syllabus for each course and submit a copy to the department chair. Plan and deliver a variety of teaching methods and materials that accommodate diverse student backgrounds and learning styles; evaluate student progress and provide timely feedback. Maintain accurate student records and submit related reports and forms within requested timelines. Review, evaluate, and recommend textbooks and learning materials; teach at varied times/locations as needed. Utilize technology effectively in the classroom and explore innovative instructional methodologies. Submit grades, attendance rosters, and other required items by stipulated deadlines. Provide academic advising to students, maintain professional relationships with students and colleagues, and be available through posted office hours and other appropriate channels. Participate in professional development, establish annual objectives, stay current in the discipline, and contribute to program and college assessment and accreditation efforts. Engage in institutional and community service activities, participate in department/college meetings, and support program accreditation and articulation efforts. Qualifications
Education Associate’s degree or higher in related field required; a portfolio of extensive work experience may substitute for a degree (minimum of eight years of experience if substituting). Bachelor’s degree preferred. Certifications Texas Fire Commission Basic Fire Fighter Certification Texas Fire Commission Intermediate Fire Instructor Certification Copy of transcript conferring required degree and certifications must accompany application. Experience Three (3) years of industry-related experience required. Minimum one (1) year of college-level teaching experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Willing and able to teach day or evening classes at multiple sites; proficient with computer software and technology. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong organizational and planning abilities. Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and to motivate students in a learning-centered environment. Self-discipline and ability to manage others; willingness to explore new instructional methodologies. The description may be revised as duties evolve.
