The County Extension Director is a member of the faculty of North Carolina State University. The major responsibility of the job is to provide leadership for and coordinate the efforts of the county Extension staff in developing an effective total County Extension educational program. The position requires a dynamic individual to provide visionary leadership for a comprehensive Extension program to meet the needs of all segments of the population. The County Extension Director serves as the County Extension administrative leader with responsibilities for administration, public policy issues, and community/leadership development. The County Extension Director is responsible for maintaining an effective advisory leadership system representative of all program areas. The County Extension Director provides leadership and expertise in coordinating/securing resource development for all program areas. Responsibilities

Provide leadership for and coordinate the county Extension staff to develop an effective total County Extension educational program. Lead the Extension program to meet the needs of all population segments; administer, manage public policy issues, and develop community leadership. Maintain an effective advisory leadership system representative of all program areas. Coordinate and secure resources for all program areas; plan, organize, and allocate resources; market the Extension program; prepare budgets; maintain administrative relationships; interpret and communicate policy. Teach, evaluate, and report in the assigned county; supervise staff development, training, and performance evaluations; align staff work responsibilities; provide programming leadership for subject matter areas. Work with citizens, staff, customers, elected officials, and volunteers; build collaborative relationships with county government agencies, organizations, county departments, local officials, area agencies, University, and Extension personnel in nearby counties. Qualifications and Requirements

Minimum Education and Experience: Either (i) Master’s degree in a field related to Extension/educational programming, administration, organizational leadership, or public administration with at least 3 years of Cooperative Extension or related university/community outreach experience; or (ii) Bachelor’s degree in a related field with at least 10 years of Cooperative Extension or related experience. If applying with a Bachelor’s degree and less than 10 years of experience, active enrollment in an accredited graduate degree program and degree conferment within one year of hire is required. Administrative and supervisory experience with human resource development, fiscal management, and external relations is strongly preferred. Department Required Skills: Demonstrated leadership in Extension programming and management; supervisory experience; strong communication and public relations skills; ability to negotiate; team building; managing public policy issues; securing and managing outside funding and resources; Preferred experience in agriculture or agribusiness, community and resource development, administration, or related Extension subject matter. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation; NC driver’s license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained. Ability to travel within the district and occasionally outside the district. Benefits and Work Environment
