Department: 34406 Carolinas Medical Center: Mercy - Nursing: 4 South Status: Full time | Benefits Eligible: Yes | Hours Per Week: 36 | Schedule Details/Additional Information: Variable Atrium Health Mercy 4 South is a 20-bed adult Progressive Care / Step Down ICU unit. This is a great opportunity to join the Atrium Health family and to be part of the growth and development of this new unit. The unit cares for patients with complex, chronic diseases requiring advanced nursing skills (e.g., sepsis, renal failure, respiratory failure, DKA) and titratable drips. Pay Range: $43.30 - $64.95

Responsibilities

Functions as an active member of the in-house clinical team, coordinating all aspects of the patient’s care related to chemotherapy administration and continuity between outpatient and inpatient visits. Coordinate lab work, growth factors, transfusions, and outpatient procedures; communicate with units and home health as needed. Consult with Oncology Pharmacists regarding dose adjustments, drug interactions, and treatment orders with attention to patient lab values. Consult with the Attending Physician regarding toxicities and dose adjustments; schedule and coordinate follow-up and imaging as needed. Schedule and arrange outpatient procedures, imaging studies (CT, MRI, PET), lumbar punctures, and other necessary assessments for chemotherapy. Establish follow-up plans for continued outpatient chemotherapy and coordinate care with referring areas when needed. Assess and communicate patients’ physical and emotional needs; determine discharge planning and ensure effective care planning documentation. Ensure adequate staffing; direct, organize, and plan day-to-day department operations to maximize productivity and efficiency. Provide leadership to staff, developing standards of performance and leveraging employee strengths; manage recruitment, orientation, and training; conduct 90-day and annual reviews. Maintain a safe work environment; ensure annual training, and compliance with infection control and safety policies; enforce PPE requirements for exposure risks. Coordinate operational aspects of systems, revise workflows and procedures, and design reports to monitor operations and timeliness. Conduct customer evaluations through departmental visits, surveys, and questionnaires to measure program quality and satisfaction.

Qualifications

Education/Experience: Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with five years of nursing experience, including at least one year in a related field (acute care or a specialty area) required. BSN preferred. Licensure/Certification: Current RN license in North Carolina; Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required. ACLS/PALS/PEARS may be required within one year in select areas.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Typical clinic setting with moderate noise; exposure to infectious diseases and radiation hazards; subject to high-stress situations and irregular hours. Physical requirements: standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, dexterity, talking, hearing, seeing; lifting up to 20-100 lbs as specified.
