POSITION SUMMARY The Adjunct RN Mental Health Clinical Instructor is responsible for supervising and evaluating nursing students in the clinical setting, focusing on psychiatric and mental health nursing. The instructor provides guidance in applying theoretical knowledge to clinical practice, ensuring students develop the competencies required for safe, effective, and compassionate mental health nursing care. This position reports to the Director of Nursing/Program Director and supports the mission and goals of the Associate of Arts in Nursing program. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Supervise, instruct, and evaluate nursing students in psychiatric/mental health clinical rotations. Facilitate student learning by demonstrating best practices in patient-centered care, therapeutic communication, and evidence-based interventions. Ensure clinical experiences align with course objectives and program outcomes. Provide ongoing feedback to students regarding clinical performance, professional behavior, and skill development. Maintain accurate documentation of student attendance, evaluations, and clinical performance. Communicate regularly with the course lead and program leadership regarding student progress and clinical site needs. Serve as a professional role model, promoting ethical practice, cultural sensitivity, and patient advocacy. Uphold institutional, programmatic, and clinical site policies and standards. Attend orientation sessions, faculty meetings, and training as required. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Nursing Program Director KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Strong clinical expertise in psychiatric and mental health nursing. Effective teaching, mentoring, and evaluation skills. Ability to foster a supportive, inclusive learning environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with students, faculty, and clinical partners. Ability to adapt to diverse clinical settings and student learning needs. Commitment to professional ethics, nursing standards, and student success. Qualifications
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice required. Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred; BSN with significant psychiatric/mental health experience may be considered (per state Board of Nursing requirements). Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing required. Prior teaching or precepting experience in a nursing education setting preferred.
