34406 Carolinas Medical Center: Mercy - Nursing: 4 South Status: Full time | Benefits Eligible: Yes | Hours Per Week: 36 | Schedule Details/Additional Information: FT Day Shift, variable | Pay Range: $34.90 - $52.35 | This is a sign-on bonus eligible position. Atrium Health Mercy 4 South is a 20-bed adult Progressive Care / Step Down ICU unit. Patients tend to have complex, chronic diseases requiring advanced nursing skills with diagnoses including sepsis, renal failure, respiratory failure, DKA, and titratable drips. Engage in unit councils, professional governance, and quality initiatives to improve care processes and apply evidence-based practices. Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care, engaging patients and families from admission to post-discharge. Monitor patient conditions, adjust care plans, mobilize resources, and collaborate with the care team to influence care outcomes. Uphold and promote a culture of safety. Continuously evaluate patient, team, and unit outcomes, taking action as needed. Administer medications, treatments, and therapies safely and according to clinical protocols and procedures. Demonstrate effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution, fostering team collaboration and appropriate delegation. Pursue professional development, complete required education, and maintain certifications. Adhere to the ANA Code of Ethics and practices ethical decision-making, respect interdisciplinary roles, and contribute to integrated, unbiased patient care. Appropriate delegation to other registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, nurse assistants, and other unlicensed assistive personnel. Maintain accurate, timely EHR documentation. May be required to float to other units, departments, or facilities within the designated service area to meet patient care needs. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care; understand life-span growth and development; assess data reflective of patient status; interpret information to identify age-specific needs; follow department policies and procedures. Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required
Basic Life Support (BLS). Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be required based on specialty. Active, unrestricted RN license with privileges to practice in the state(s) where nursing services are provided; telehealth considerations as applicable. Education Required
Graduate of a Board of Nursing approved nursing education program. Experience Required
No formal RN experience required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking. Time management, prioritization and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Proficiency in operating computer functions (e.g., EHR, email, digital platforms). Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, equipment, and supplies. Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with assistance. Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch; fine hand manipulation skills for procedures. Must be able to operate carts or machines and respond quickly to changes in patient and unit conditions. May be exposed to chemical waste, blood and body fluids; protective equipment provided as necessary. Physical Abilities Testing may be required; additional department-specific physical requirements may apply. Education Preferred
