JOB SUMMARY: The Summer Nurse Externship is a 10-week program designed for nursing students entering their final year. The program begins with a two-week orientation including both classroom and clinical components, in which the nurse extern performs basic bedside care and selected nursing procedures. The Nurse Extern is assigned to a Registered Nurse to perform basic bedside care and selected nursing procedures. Externs learn physical assessment skills and routine basic care skills. This is for a nursing student entering their final year of an accredited nursing program. The 28-bed mixed-acuity unit cares for patients with LVAD and other cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery and congenital heart patients. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Nursing student in final year of an accredited Nursing Program and one clinical rotation, or a Graduate Nurse without Boards required. WHY PENN STATE HEALTH?
