Responsibilities
Under the general direction of the NFIP Coordination Unit manager, organizes, plans, and evaluates the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) compliance program for Illinois communities.
Maintains liaison with FEMA and other federal agencies, as well as professional organizations such as IAFSM and ASFPM, regarding highly complex technical and policy issues.
Determines priorities for floodplain studies based on evaluation of changing hydrologic and land use conditions.
Prepares, edits and distributes regulatory manuals and other educational documents and brochures regarding the NFIP.
Assists mitigation program manager with the review, prioritization, administration, and completion of mitigation projects in downstate Illinois.
Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Requirements Minimum Qualifications
Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with coursework in business or public administration.
Requires two years of responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization.
Preferred Qualifications
Prefers working knowledge of land use or similar regulatory program.
Prefers two (2) years of professional experience in floodplain management regulations at the state or local government level.
Prefers two (2) years of professional experience organizing and prioritizing workload and operating in an independent atmosphere.
Prefers two (2) years of professional experience reading and interpreting maps and other graphic and tabular data, such as hydrologic studies.
