Unionized position represented by Local 8 of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU). Starting wage is $30.48 an hour.

FIND OUT ABOUT THIS ROLE
The Float Janitor supports Plymouth residents by maintaining a safe, clean living environment across all buildings, and is responsible for all major janitorial duties. Specific tasks include common baths, showers, toilets, hallway cleaning, vacuuming, carpet shampooing, preparing vacant units, lobby cleaning and waxing, window cleaning, trash removal, and light bulb replacement. The role is flexible with movement throughout the portfolio and can be reassigned on a short- or long-term basis or shared between properties to meet business needs.
Plymouth Housing is a nonprofit that develops and operates permanent supportive housing for single adults who have experienced chronic homelessness. We provide supportive services such as case management and health care to help residents thrive long-term.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO BE DOING
- Perform routine janitorial and maintenance tasks to maintain order and safety across individual units, offices, exterior, and common areas.
- Clean common areas, including vacuuming, carpet shampooing, mopping, wall washing, and furnishing cleaning.
- Remove garbage from buildings following safe trash removal protocols.
- Monitor all areas for cleanliness and maintenance needs.
- Complete light maintenance and cleaning duties in vacated units as needed.
- Strip, wax, and buff floors in common areas and units at turnover.
- Perform pest control treatments, including bed bugs.
- Replace light bulbs in all common areas as needed.
- Assist building maintenance staff and vendors, including rooftop safety escorts.
- Restock supply closets as instructed by the Facility Manager.
- Respond to flood/fire emergencies when requested.
- Properly dispose of and sanitize hazardous materials in compliance with OSHA standards.
- Work with the Facility Manager to respond to and complete work orders.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings and trainings, such as OSHA basic industry training.
- Perform pre-inspection on vacant units.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ATTRIBUTES
- Effective communication with a diverse group.
- Excellent knowledge and proper use of cleaning agents.
- Professional communication skills with tenants.
- Understanding of written work order instructions.
- Ability to operate Plymouth owned vehicles.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, payroll system, etc.
- Working knowledge of Hazmat procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education and work experience.
- Valid Washington State driver license with a fully insurable driving record.
- Certification in fall prevention training or the ability to obtain it within a reasonable period.
- Two years of janitorial/maintenance experience in multifamily or hospitality settings.
- Experience working with diverse, low‑income, or special‑needs populations is desired.
