SALARY This is a unionized position represented by Local 8 of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU). Starting wage is $30.48-$30.48 an hour.

The Float Janitor supports Plymouth residents by working to maintain a safe, clean, living environment in all buildings and is responsible for all major janitorial duties. Specific tasks related to this position include a variety of cleaning tasks such as common baths, showers, toilets, maintaining clean hallways, stairs, and common areas; vacuuming and shampooing carpets; preparing vacant units for incoming tenants; maintaining the lobby (cleaning and waxing floors, cleaning windows, taking out the trash, and changing light bulbs in common areas). The Janitor Float position is generally flexible with movement throughout the portfolio and can be reassigned on a short- or long-term basis or shared between properties based on business/service needs.
Plymouth Housing is a nonprofit organization that develops and operates permanent supportive housing for single adults who have experienced chronic homelessness. With apartment buildings throughout King County, Plymouth helps the most vulnerable members of our community leave homelessness behind forever. Plymouth provides supportive services like case management and health care so residents can thrive long-term. As part of our strategic vision, we are building internal behavioral health services and transforming our systems to address rapid growth and changing needs of residents.
What you can expect to be doing in this role at Plymouth Housing
- Performs necessary routine janitorial and maintenance tasks to maintain a safe, sanitary living and work environment including, but not limited to individual units, offices, exterior of buildings, common areas, bathrooms, showers, kitchens, and laundry rooms.
- Performs routine cleaning in common areas including vacuuming, shampooing carpets, mopping floors, washing walls, and cleaning furnishings.
- Removes garbage from buildings following safety trash removal protocols.
- Monitors all areas of the building and systems for cleanliness and maintenance needs.
- Completes light maintenance and cleaning duties including vacated units upon turnover as needed.
- Performs floor stripping, waxing, and buffing in common areas and units at turn.
- Performs pest control treatments, including bed bugs.
- Changes out light bulbs in all common areas as needed.
- Assists building maintenance staff and vendors as needed (e.g., rooftop safety escorts).
- Assists with restocking/inventory of supply closets as instructed by Facility Manager.
- Assists with flood/fire emergencies response when requested by the Facility Manager.
- Occasional removal, proper disposal and sanitizing of hazardous materials in accordance with OSHA standards.
- Works with Facility Manager to respond to and complete work orders.
- Attends and participates in scheduled staff meetings and trainings (e.g., OSHA basic industry training).
- Performs pre-inspection on vacant units.
Some Knowledge, Skills, And Attributes We Need From You
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse group of voices.
- Thorough knowledge and proper use of cleaning agents.
- Proven ability to communicate appropriately with tenants.
- Ability to understand written instructions on work orders.
- Ability to operate Plymouth-owned vehicles.
- Basic computer skills or ability to learn Microsoft Outlook and other applications (e.g., payroll system).
- Working knowledge of Hazmat procedures.
Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
- Valid Washington State driver license with a fully insurable driving record.
- Certificate in fall prevention training or ability to be certified within a reasonable period of time.
- Two years janitorial/maintenance and multifamily or hospitality cleaning experience.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse, low-income or special needs population is desired.
