Job Overview
The Lead Float Janitor at Plymouth Housing ensures a safe, clean living and work environment for residents and staff. This unionized position is represented by Local 8 of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) and encompasses major janitorial duties, including maintaining common baths, showers, toilets, hallways, stairs, and common areas. Duties also involve purchasing decisions, handling callouts, conducting onboarding and training for janitorial staff, and overseeing inventory of equipment and supplies.
Plymouth Housing is a nonprofit organization that develops and operates permanent supportive housing for single adults who have experienced chronic homelessness. With apartment buildings throughout King County, Plymouth helps the most vulnerable members of our community leave homelessness behind forever. We provide supportive services such as case management and health care so that our residents can thrive long‑term, and we are building internal behavioral health services to address rapid growth and evolving resident needs.
Responsibilities
- Maintain order and sanitation in living and work areas, including offices and outside grounds.
- Provide mentorship, coaching, support and guidance to the Janitorial Staff by assisting with onboarding, training and guidance.
- Reassign responsibilities during callouts.
- Perform floor stripping, waxing, and buffing, monitor building cleanliness, and conduct pest control treatments.
- Handle various cleaning tasks such as windows, carpets, walls, and furnishings, as well as trash disposal and light maintenance.
- Assist with restocking supply closets, respond to work orders, and participate in team meetings and goal‑setting.
- Conduct safety escorts, obtain fall prevention training, and assist with emergencies.
- Conduct move‑out reports, deliver supplies, train other float janitors, inspect unit turns, and oversee deep cleaning projects.
- Conduct facility walk‑throughs, inspections, and maintenance checks, and prepare work orders for repairs.
- Ensure completion and correctness of work orders performed by maintenance employees or contractors.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or G.E.D certificate with four or more years of progressive and practical experience in at least one or more of the skilled trades previously described.
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License with a clean DMV record.
- Experience working with diverse, low‑income or special‑needs population.
- Knowledge of Hazmat procedures.
- Basic computer skills, including MS Outlook.
Salary & Benefits
