Atrium Health SouthPark Emergency Department, a facility of Carolinas Medical Center, provides 24-hour emergency medical services to the SouthPark area and surrounding communities. Our team treats a range of conditions from traumatic injuries to heart attacks and strokes, with board-certified emergency physicians and the resources of Carolinas Medical Center, the region's only Level I Trauma Center. The CT Technologist I performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Operates CT Scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency, including scanner, post-processing stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, oxygen and suction equipment, patient transport and patient monitoring equipment. Major Responsibilities
Examine requests and verify orders on each assigned patient. Refer and question orders to the Radiologist before performing the exam. Contact the ordering provider if there are discrepancies. Properly identify patients (using two identifiers) and assist patients with a brief explanation of procedures. Prepare patients and document on appropriate worksheets. Interview patients for a complete medical history. Review EMRs for in-patients, ER, and outpatients to obtain pertinent clinical history. Record medical history on requisitions. Correlate other test results and laboratory data with the exam being performed. Take responsibility for the exam from start to finish including dictated results. Prepare and administer IV contrast according to departmental protocols. Record contrast type and amount when requested. Evaluate the technical quality of images and consult with a Radiologist if needed. Recognize abnormal anatomy and process additional images or measurements as instructed. Perform basic patient care functions. Inform nursing personnel of changes in patient condition. Initiate life support measures when necessary. Assist in code blue procedures during emergencies. Perform CT scanning and assist Radiologist/Physician Assistant during invasive procedures. Maintain sterile technique and follow infection control policies. Obtain medication or contrast material as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner. Follow radiation safety standards for self, staff, patients, and others. Report malfunctioning equipment to supervisor and maintain knowledge to work safely in environments with exposure risks. Adhere to fire and safety procedures. Attend in-service classes and safety modules. Work accurately and timely in crisis situations. Rotate shifts as required, including on-call, holidays, and weekends. Follow attendance policy. Operate radiology computer system for entering orders and charging procedures/materials. Document contrast administration in the MAR. Keep assigned work area neat, stocked, and clean. Assist other medical personnel, such as anesthesia, when performing exams in conjunction with CT scans. Minimum Job Requirements
Education, Certification / License, Work Experience Graduate of an ARRT-recognized Radiologic Technology program. ARRT certification in Radiology, or NMTCB in Nuclear Medicine, and ARRT CT advanced registry within one year of hire; CPR certification required. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Requires moderate to heavy physical effort lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies. Occasional standing, walking, and sitting. May involve bending, twisting, squatting or kneeling. Exposure to varying conditions and ionizing radiation; adhere to safety guidelines.
