Job Title: CT Technologist I (PRN) – Atrium Health SouthPark Emergency Department, a facility of Carolinas Medical Center

Location: Charlotte, NC

Job Summary

The CT Technologist I performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Operates CT scanners and related equipment, including scanner, post-processing stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, oxygen and suction equipment, patient transport and patient monitoring equipment.

Responsibilities

Examines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient; refers and questions orders to the Radiologist before performing the exam. Contacts ordering provider when there are discrepancies.

Identify and assist patients using two identifiers; provide a clear explanation of procedures; prepare patients and document on appropriate worksheets.

Interview patients for complete medical history; review EMRs for in-patients, ER and outpatients; record medical history on requisitions; correlate other test results and laboratory data with the exam.

Take responsibility for the exam from start to completion of dictated results.

Prepare and administer IV contrast according to departmental protocols; record contrast type and amount when requested.

Evaluate image quality and consult with Radiologist as needed; recognize abnormal anatomy and process additional images or measurements as instructed.

Provide basic patient care, inform nursing staff of changes in condition, and assist in emergency procedures as needed.

Perform CT scanning and assist Radiologist/PA during invasive procedures; maintain sterile technique and follow infection control policies.

Obtain medications or contrast material as directed by a licensed practitioner.

Practice radiation safety for self, staff, patients and visitors; follow safety standards.

Report equipment malfunctions and maintain knowledge to work safely in an environment with potential exposure to pathogens.

Adhere to fire and safety procedures; participate in required safety trainings.

Rotate shifts as needed, including call back, holidays and weekends; adhere to attendance policies.

Operate the radiology computer system, enter orders, and document contrast administration in the MAR.

Maintain a clean, stocked work area; assist other medical personnel during exams or services involving CT imaging.

Qualifications Minimum Job Requirements

Education, Certification / License, Work Experience: Graduate of an ARRT-recognized Radiologic Technology program. ARRT certification in Radiology, NMTCB in Nuclear Medicine, and ARRT CT advanced registry within one year of hire; current CPR certification is required.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Moderate to heavy physical effort; lifting and moving patients, equipment and supplies. Occasional standing, walking, and sitting. May require stretching, bending, twisting, squatting or kneeling. Exposure to various conditions; must follow radiation safety guidelines to prevent exposure.
