Maintenance Specialist I – City of Midland, Texas Help keep Midland safe and moving! As a member of the Traffic Operations team, you'll support the flow of traffic throughout the city by assisting with the installation, repair, and maintenance of essential traffic control devices—including road signs, street markings, barricades, and lane dividers. Whether you're painting curb lines, fabricating signs, or setting up safe work zones, your work plays a direct role in public safety and everyday travel. Essential Duties

Performs pre-trip/post-trip vehicle and equipment inspections.

Performs daily preventative maintenance of motorized equipment or hand tools.

Maintains tools and equipment in good and safe operating condition.

Keeps jobsite and vehicles/equipment neat and in order.

Performs any related duties needed to complete projects.

Maintains records of work performed such as work schedules, status reports, and work orders.

Paints lane lines on streets and thoroughfares.

Paints designated curbs.

Installs and maintains thermoplastic roadway markings and signage throughout the city.

Installs and maintains lane marking devices and barricades.

Assists with the proper setup of work zone traffic control.

Fulfill on‑call duties as required and outlined on the Traffic Operations on‑call roster.

Assists with the maintenance of Traffic Operations building and grounds.Assists other City divisions and departments as needed.

Trims trees to clear sign obstructions.

Fabricates signs.

Attends monthly safety meetings.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical & Environmental Conditions Ability to sit, stand, and drive a vehicle to and from various work sites. Employee will be exposed to seasonal temperatures while performing maintenance duties and to potentially hazardous equipment and traffic. Employee will be exposed to high-volume traffic work zones and must be able to lift working materials.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.

No experience necessary.

Valid Class C Texas driver's license.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of construction and maintenance of streets and underground drainage systems.

Knowledge of safety practices and hazards standard to the work area.

Skill to operate various light equipment and machinery.

Ability to understand and implement verbal and written instructions.

Ability to perform physical labor.

Ability to comprehend written and oral work assignments and perform work as assigned.

Licenses & Certifications

Valid Class C Texas driver's license.
