Apply for the New ER Doctor (NERD) Program at VEG ER for Pets. This six‑month structured mentorship transforms practicing non‑emergency veterinarians into confident VEG ER doctors. Participants receive structured teaching, individualized mentorship, and the opportunity to complete full‑time ER roles upon successful completion.

THE PROGRAM Designed to transition non‑emergency veterinarians into skilled ER doctors, the program offers:
Integrated academic and clinical teaching
Individualized mentorship from experienced VEG doctors
Hands‑on ER experience, including 3–4 hospital shifts per week
Weekly case discussions, literature reviews, and advanced training at state‑of‑the‑art facilities
Over 160 RACE‑approved continuing education hours in six months
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Participate in daily ER shifts with top emergency doctors and specialists
Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, handling a wide range of emergencies—including exotics
Engage in weekly case reviews and evidence‑based learning sessions
Receive real‑time feedback and 1:1 mentorship from experienced VEG doctors
CONTINUING EDUCATION
Abdominal, thoracic, and cardiac point‑of‑care ultrasound
Exotic companion animal emergency care
Flexible GI endoscopy
Small animal emergency surgery
Small animal critical care laboratory training
Recovery ALS and BLS Rescuer CPR certification
WHAT YOU NEED
A passion for helping others
A valid DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree
At least one year of practicing veterinary medicine
A desire to work full‑time emergency medicine
A valid veterinary license and DEA registration in the state where the program begins
Physical ability to stand prolonged periods, kneel, lift up to 25 kg independently, and assist with up to 40 kg
Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis
Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, diverse environment
Commitment to a continuous six‑month schedule
