Position Summary
Remote (100%) role that supports the university’s faculty and staff on issues such as appointments, classifications, compensation, performance management, and policy interpretation. The consultant provides expert advice and ensures compliance with university, state, and federal regulations.
Responsibilities Update and implement compensation and classification policies for faculty and non‑faculty as directed by the UNC Board of Governors and Board of Trustees, ensuring compliance with university, state, and federal requirements.
Perform classification studies and job analyses for new and existing positions, making determinations consistent with established standards and organizational needs.
Provide compensation‑related advice, ensuring recommendations are internally equitable, externally competitive, and fiscally responsible.
Consult on policies and procedures for EHRA appointments, job changes, and promotions; train campus staff on these processes.
Review and approve EHRA hiring proposals, hires, job changes, and promotions in the university HR Information Systems.
Coordinate review of and administrative tasks for the EHRA Non‑Faculty performance evaluation process.
Guide campus during termination processes, ensuring decisions align with university policy.
Anticipate future needs and collaborate on short‑ and long‑term planning with campus HR.
Triage and troubleshoot exceptional HR situations, escalating as appropriate.
Review HR business processes to identify improvement opportunities and promote operational excellence.
Perform other related duties and participate in or lead special projects as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and two years of progressively responsible professional human‑resources management experience, or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Professional knowledge of HR principles, best practices, and related business context, gained through practical experience and formal training.
Ability to apply and interpret interrelated policies, procedures, and programs, effectively addressing non‑routine issues.
Skill in advising and collaborating with clients to resolve difficult issues and recognize the impact of policies, procedures, and laws.
Capacity to determine and follow a course of action to address complex, ambiguous, or unique operational and programmatic issues.
Established collaborative professional relationships; comfortable handling multiple projects and priorities.
Sensitivity and discretion when dealing with sensitive or confidential information.
Highly developed customer service and consulting skills, aiming for mutual resolutions in the organization’s best interests.
Ability to successfully complete projects with established guidelines, standards, and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Solid knowledge of university and state HR policies, procedures, processes, and technologies related to EHRA and SHRA personnel and payroll issues, and the ability to interpret and communicate this information.
Five years of HR experience, preferably as a generalist; experience in higher education or the non‑profit sector preferred.
Previous EHRA non‑faculty classification and compensation experience preferred.
