Job Overview The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a dedicated EHRA Human Resources Consultant to manage a diverse portfolio of faculty, instructional, research, athletic, executive and senior administrative staff positions. The consultant will partner with campus HR professionals to design, classify, and administer EHRA positions, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations while supporting strategic workforce initiatives.
Responsibilities
Update and implement compensation/classification policies for faculty and non‑faculty positions in line with UNC Board directives.
Conduct classification studies and job analyses for new and existing roles, advising on organizational structure impacts.
Provide compensation recommendations that are internally equitable, externally competitive, and fiscally responsible.
Offer consulting, guidance and training on EHRA appointment, job change, and promotion procedures.
Review and approve EHRA hiring proposals, hires, job changes, and promotions via the university’s HRIS.
Coordinate the EHRA Non‑Faculty performance evaluation process.
Guide campus during termination processes to ensure policy consistency.
Anticipate future workforce needs, challenges and opportunities and collaborate on short‑ and long‑term planning.
Triage and troubleshoot exceptional HR situations, escalating when appropriate.
Review HR business processes to identify improvement opportunities for operational excellence.
Perform additional related duties and lead special projects as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree and two years of progressively responsible professional human resources management experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Professional knowledge of human resource program principles and best practices, with demonstrated ability to apply policies, procedures, and laws. Strong analytical, consulting, and interpersonal skills with the capacity to manage multiple projects, handle confidential information, and achieve results within established guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Five years of Human Resources experience, preferably in a generalist capacity, with knowledge of University and state HR policies, procedures, processes, and technologies related to EHRA and SHRA personnel and payroll. Experience in higher education or the non‑profit sector and prior EHRA NF classification and compensation experience are highly desirable.
