Job Description This highly technical role provides post‑sales on‑site support of Juniper Network products. The Resident Engineer will develop and maintain expertise on the products deployed within the customer’s network and serve as a subject‑matter expert.
Responsibilities
Serve as SME on Juniper products and technologies.
Understand the customer’s organizational structure, network implementation, and support procedures to drive the highest level of network availability.
Carry out testing of new designs, features, and functionality in a laboratory environment and develop implementation plans for live production networks.
Validate patches and fixes to operating system software to ensure correct implementation in pre‑production, test, and live networks.
Troubleshoot equipment and network problems, initiating and tracking JTAC cases through resolution.
Produce written summary reports of design projects, equipment, and network problems for the customer.
Hold network information gathering workshops to understand existing design and technical requirements for new deployments.
Train customer design, implementation, and support personnel on Juniper Networks products.
Collaborate with peers in similar resident engineering roles to minimize risk associated with major upgrades or changes.
Develop secondary skills in other products in the customer network.
Qualifications
Strong interpersonal skills.
Detailed technical experience in the installation and operation of routers, switches, and firewalls, including hands‑on operation of management tools and network analyzers.
Detailed understanding of service provider protocols surrounding IP networks (TCP/IP, RSVP, Segment Routing, etc.).
Experience in routing protocol troubleshooting (BGP, IS‑IS, MPLS).
Experience with Software Defined Networking (SDN).
Ability to function in a team environment and take on tasks with self‑direction.
Ability to communicate well within the Juniper team and articulate customer problems before they become major issues.
Hands‑on configuration and operational knowledge of Juniper products.
Knowledge and Experience
5+ years experience in a large service provider network.
Primary platform focus: EX, MX, SRX, and QFX products.
Unix/Linux experience.
Automation and scripting experience is a plus.
JNCIP, JNCIE, CCNP, CCIE is a strong plus.
Additional Skills
Cloud Architectures, Cross Domain Knowledge, Design Thinking.
Development Fundamentals, DevOps, Distributed Computing, Microservices Fluency.
Full Stack Development, Security‑First Mindset, User Experience (UX).
