Base Pay Range Salary: $45,000.00 – $50,000.00 per year
Position Purpose The Financial Aid Coordinator assists in administering federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and college policies. This position provides counseling and support to students and families regarding financial aid, assists with processing aid applications and verification, coordinates specialty areas of financial aid, and contributes to departmental goals under the direction of the Assistant Director of Financial Aid. The coordinator plays a critical role in delivering excellent customer service and maintaining the integrity of financial aid operations.
Responsibilities
Provide counseling services and general problem resolution for all students and families.
Collect, review, and analyze financial data to determine aid eligibility; make awards within federal, state, institutional, and donor guidelines.
Assist students and parents with questions regarding financial aid forms, eligibility, and program requirements in person, by phone, and in writing.
Process federal, state, and institutional aid including grants, scholarships, and student loans; reconcile loan information; and oversee entrance/exit loan counseling.
Conduct Return to Title IV calculations and adjust financial aid packages as required.
Review and process verification, change of income requests, and Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) appeals; make corrections to ISIRs as needed.
Process alternative loan certifications and consortium/contractual agreements with partner institutions.
Support the student employment program to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
Maintain accurate student financial aid records, documentation, and audit trails.
Coordinate and participate in financial aid workshops, presentations, and recruitment activities for current and prospective students and families.
Maintain financial aid web-based information and ensure accuracy of departmental communications.
Engage in cross-training and support coverage of all financial aid office operations, especially during peak enrollment periods.
Attend staff meetings, training, and professional development activities; stay current on federal and state regulations and best practices.
Protect confidentiality of sensitive financial and personal data in compliance with FERPA and federal/state regulations.
Supervise part-time staff in accordance with employees’ assigned duties and responsibilities.
Supervise all interns and student employees assigned to the Financial Aid office.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in education, Psychology, Sociology, Communications, Business/Accounting or related field with a minimum of one year experience working in financial aid or a minimum of five years of direct experience in the delivery of financial aid (all Title IV federal student aid programs and state assistance) including merit-based assistance (private and institutional funds).
A minimum of three years of direct student loan servicing or three years of lending/banking experience.
A minimum of one year experience with Ellucian student financial aid and/or student accounts system; Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel, etc.) and operating standard office machines (copier, fax, shredder, calculator, etc.).
Possess proven written/oral communication, interpersonal and verbal counseling, computer literacy, public relations, human relations, and analytical skills to function at an acceptable level.
Ability to work within a team oriented, cooperative environment with other professional colleagues toward a common goal.
Work collaboratively with such areas of the College as Admissions, Housing, Registration, Bursar and each technology on campus. Decisions and recommendations must be sound and must always ensure integrity, compliance and exceptional customer service.
Possess analytical ability in solving problems.
Required: Bachelor’s degree in education, Business, Psychology, Sociology, Communications, or related field, OR five years of direct financial aid experience including Title IV federal student aid and state assistance programs.
Minimum of one year of experience with Ellucian (or comparable financial aid/student information system) and Microsoft Office applications preferred.
Strong written/oral communication, interpersonal, counseling, analytical, and public relations skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, collaborative environment with Admissions, Bursar, Housing, and other campus departments.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, integrity, and compliance in all aspects of financial aid processing.
Experience with student loan servicing, banking, or financial counseling preferred.
Working Environment Office environment with daily, staff‑faculty interactions, subject to frequent interruptions; travel to off‑campus locations may be required.
Physical Abilities
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer terminal;
Hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations;
Sitting for extended periods of time.
Conditions of Employment This is a 12‑month position that reports to the Assistant Director of Financial Aid. This position may be subject to evening hours and weekends during peak enrollment periods. Reasonable accommodations may be requested under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
