Key Duties and Responsibilities

Take full ownership of all accounting activities, including daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly tasks. From AP and AR to check‑runs, payroll, and project accounting, you’ll ensure every detail is precise and every process runs seamlessly.

Champion the accuracy and integrity of the WIP schedule, ensuring revenue is recognized accurately, proactively addressing over/under billings, and sparking collaborative conversations with project managers to optimize job performance.

Drive the implementation of robust accounting and administrative controls that guarantee precise project cost tracking, seamless certified payroll compliance, timely lien releases, and smooth subcontractor and vendor payments.

Review, analyze, and approve all project financial transactions, including change orders, cost transfers, revenue adjustments, subcontract billings, and retention releases, to ensure flawless accuracy and total alignment with contract requirements.

Lead the charge on financial reporting, ensuring all information is prepared accurately and submitted promptly to keep our team ahead of the curve.

Oversee the company’s cash flow cycle with a sharp focus on construction billing schedules, progress payments, and retention collections, ensuring our operations remain strong and agile.

Inspire, mentor, and develop our accounting and payroll team every day, fostering a culture of excellence and growth.

Prepare and deliver insightful monthly, quarterly, and year‑end financial reports, as well as ad hoc analyses that drive business strategy.

Ensure a smooth and timely monthly and year‑end close, setting the standard for accuracy and efficiency.

Safeguard the F&A department’s compliance with all company legal, administrative, and accounting policies, protecting our reputation and ensuring operational integrity.

Tackle additional responsibilities as they arise, demonstrating adaptability and a commitment to the team’s success.

Ability to act with the required discretion when handling confidential information.

Demonstrates strong management skills, with the ability to effectively delegate and coordinate activities, as well as lead and motivate finance and commercial risk employees.

High proficiency in Excel and in-depth understanding of ERP software, SAGE 300 CRE experience strongly preferred.

Exceptional interpersonal skills, fostering collaboration and trust across teams.

Proven mastery in project forecasting and budgeting, skilled in revenue recognition, cost‑to‑complete analysis, and strategic cash flow planning that keeps projects on track and profitable.

Deep knowledge of project costing principles, leveraging your expertise to analyze labor, equipment, subcontractor, and material costs for precise job cost reporting and maximum profitability.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks with conflicting deadlines.

Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail, ensuring flawless preparation and entry of financial information to consistently meet all deadlines and requirements.

Experience, Education & Skills

Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Proven track record with 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in construction or a similar industry.

Minimum 2 years of demonstrated success in a supervisory or leadership role.

GAAP knowledge.

Working Conditions

Office Environment: sitting at a desk, physical requirements, such as climbing, standing, stooping, or typing, and occasionally the ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
