Position Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and licensed
Fire Protection Design Engineer
to support mission-critical engineering operations across multiple domestic and international sites. This role is a key contributor to the safety and operational readiness of specialized facilities, including those supporting Deep Space Network.
You will lead the design and technical development of complex fire protection systems, ensuring compliance with NFPA codes, OSHA regulations, and standards. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise, strong client-facing communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects across different sites and time zones.
This is an exciting opportunity to support national defense, emergency preparedness, and energy program initiatives as part of a rated government subcontract.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design and development of fire protection systems including fire alarms, suppression systems, fire pumps, private service mains, and special hazard systems
Perform technical calculations, code analysis, and system design reviews in compliance with NFPA, NEC, OSHA, and other applicable standards
Conduct project kick-off meetings, design reviews, site surveys, and inspections for domestic and overseas facilities
Prepare technical specifications, drawings, and supporting documentation for all fire/life safety systems
Collaborate with AHJs, clients, and internal teams to ensure code compliance and timely project delivery
Oversee system testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting as required
Maintain accurate documentation and provide remote technical support when needed
Interpret evolving regulations and recommend system upgrades to maintain compliance
Represent the organization in professional forums such as SFPE and NFPA
Provide peer reviews and mentor junior engineers or drafters when appropriate
Travel to construction sites, including international locations, may be required
Required Skills/Education:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Fire Protection Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field
Minimum 8–10 years of hands-on experience in fire protection system design (10+ years preferred)
Licensed Fire Protection Engineer (P.E.)
Strong knowledge of NFPA codes and standards (e.g., NFPA 13, 70, 72, 2001)
Proficient in AutoCAD and fire sprinkler design software
Demonstrated experience in client interaction, plan reviews, and code compliance
Ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed
U.S. Citizenship (required for clearance)
Desired Qualifications:
Experience working on government or defense-related contracts
Familiarity with specific standards and regulations (e.g., NPRs)
Strong project management and team collaboration skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and MS Project
Experience with Defense Priorities and Allocations System (DPAS)-rated contracts
