We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior/Lead Embedded Hardware Engineer with Emerson’s Branson Ultrasonic business based in Novi, MI! At Emerson, your work will directly impact the evolution of intelligent control systems, driving innovation in electronics design and shaping the future of industrial automation. You will collaborate with system architects, hardware and firmware engineers, product marketing, quality, and supply chain to develop high-performance electronic systems that enable safe, efficient, reliable operation of ultrasonic welding machines in industries ranging from automotive, packaging, EV batteries, to life sciences and food production.
IN THIS ROLE, YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL:
Provide technical leadership, architectural analysis and requirements generation for embedded hardware projects based on MCU/SOM/Microprocessors and associated subsystems design such as switching power supply, Op-amps circuits, Sensors, I/O interfaces.
Provide technical direction and guidance to other engineers and leading peer design reviews.
Collaborate with multi-functional teams including firmware, software, mechanical, test, supply chain and manufacturing engineers to deliver robust and cost-effective solutions.
Drive design verification and testing processes to ensure performance and compliance with industry standards.
Support sustaining engineering efforts including root cause analysis and field issue resolution.
Stay informed on the latest and emerging technologies, industry trends, and standards in electronics design and engineering, and incorporate them into design processes.
Work closely with EMS partners and vendors for prototype and production level board manufacturing.
Drive continuous improvement in design practices, documentation, and development processes.

FOR THIS ROLE, YOU WILL NEED:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer/Electrical/Electronics Engineering or relevant fields
5+ years of experience in embedded hardware development.
Strong background in analog and digital circuit design principles
Deep understanding of hardware architecture for various microcontrollers (e.g., ARM, PIC) and Systems on a Chip (SoCs).
Experience in designing FPGA-based embedded systems.
Experience is using software tools such as Simulink, LTspice for design and modeling.
Hands-on experience with debugging and validation tools such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and logic analyzers.
Familiarity with embedded bus architectures and communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, and UART.
Fundamentals in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), design principles and PCB layout for control of emissions and immunity.
Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve hardware issues.
Legal authorization to work in the United States - Sponsorship will not be provided for this position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS THAT SET YOU APART:
Master’s degree in Computer/Electrical/Electronics engineering
Proficiency in hardware description languages.
Understanding of FPGA design principles and experience in implementing FPGA-based solutions
Familiarity with Linux OS, C, C++, Python.
Experience in using CAD development tools such as Altium to create schematics and PCB layout.
Experience in performing failure mode effect analysis (FMEA) to identify and mitigate potential design risks.
Knowledge in Industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Profinet, EtherCat.
Familiarity with Ultrasonic welding technologies and systems.
Experience with switched mode power supply design.
