Hybrid Schedule:
At Helen of Troy, we embrace a flexible hybrid work model designed to support collaboration and productivity. For roles eligible for hybrid work, our standard schedule includes in-office collaboration from Tuesday through Thursday, with the option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. What You Will Be Doing Evaluates and directs functional and technical aspects of new products in collaboration with internal and external design firms. Cooperates with manufacturing partners in the production of new products in a wide range of materials and manufacturing methods. Works with manufacturers and quality team to improve the quality of existing products.
Critiques designs received from design firms, which include reviewing designs provided as CAD files and soliciting feedback from manufacturers. Conveys and discusses required changes with the design firm. Creates prototype samples by ordering from external fabricators or producing using in-house fabrication.
Reviews pre-production samples from the factory, designs and performs product testing to assess quality, provides input on changes required for product to meet acceptable quality, and finally approves product for mass-production when acceptable quality is achieved.
Reviews designs with the factory, involving answering factory questions on the design and deciding whether the requested changes are reasonable.
Meets with design firms to provide insight on design decisions related to material selection, manufacturing methods, assembly methods, and cost.
Prepares designs for quoting by preparing bills of materials, functional/quality requirements, and key manufacturing questions. Collaborates with product managers to review and compare quotes from multiple manufacturers.
Ensures that new products meet standards of performance and quality by designing product testing procedures and conducting testing.
Works with the quality team to identify and solve issues that arise with products that are already in production.
Creates rapid prototypes of new product concepts to assess viability.
Skills & Qualifications
Knowledge of common consumer product materials such as plastics, metals, silicone, and fasteners
Knowledge of common consumer product manufacturing methods such as plastic injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, metal CNC machining, overmolding, and/or compression molding
Knowledge of common assembly/joining methods such as plastic snap design, overmolding, ultrasonic welding, and common metal components such as screws, pins, springs, etc
Familiarity with design for manufacturing and design for assembly
Excellent problem-solving skills
Ability to clearly communicate ideas through sketches and e-mail, and work well as part of a larger team
Intermediate knowledge of either Creo or SolidWorks CAD software
Able to travel to visit manufacturers internationally (up to 10%)
Software knowledge in Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in mechanical engineering, product engineering, or materials science
2+ years of professional experience in related field
Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
In New York City, the standard base pay range for this role is $84,442.30 - $95,000 annually. This base pay range is specific to New York City and may not be applicable to other locations. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to location, experience, skill level, and performance. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees.
