Job Description The Compliance Attorney coordinates the Firm’s identification of and compliance with various legal, regulatory, and contractual duties. The Compliance Attorney works under minimal supervision and relies on detailed instructions to plan and accomplish goals.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Collect, organize, and store Outside Counsel Guidelines (OCGs) and engagement terms
Research and provide guidance regarding Market Abuse Regulations
Collaborate with practice areas and firm departments (marketing, IT) to provide specific information requested and adhere compliance feasibility with client OCGs and engagement terms
Help keep firm attorneys and staff apprised of their specific roles and responsibilities under existing OCGs and engagement terms
Identify new matters involving Personal Health Information (PHI) and verify execution of Business Associate Agreements
Maintain database of OCGs to keep track of and enable internal compliance with various provisions (e.g. AI, Privacy)
Liaise directly with external firm clients in the negotiation of OCGs
Work closely with the Deputy General Counsels
Job Specifications
Juris Doctorate (JD)
Licensed in Illinois or California
At least one (1) year of related work experience
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word)
Knowledge of law firm financial analysis and billing, market intelligence, and legal research software
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to handle and maintain confidential information
Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment
Compensation Target Hiring Range $135,000 – $198,000. Base pay is only one part of the Total Rewards that McDermott provides. Full‑time positions are eligible for a discretionary bonus and a comprehensive benefits package.
Benefits and Bonuses Successful candidates will be provided with outstanding career opportunities and will receive a competitive total rewards package with the opportunity to earn performance‑based bonuses.
