Position Overview The Assistant Dean of Simulation is appointed by the dean and has delegated administrative responsibility for overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of simulation-based education within the College of Nursing, in collaboration with the Associate and Assistant Deans and Directors. This is a 12‑month clinical track position with 50% administrative effort. The role ensures accreditation in simulation, manages allocated funds, revises policy, ensures personnel coverage for all high‑fidelity simulation and skills training events, and oversees simulation personnel to smoothly deliver day‑to‑day simulation events. It involves strategic planning, faculty development, and integration of simulation into the curriculum to enhance student learning outcomes. The position reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Educational Innovation.

Performance Objectives

Develop and implement a comprehensive simulation strategy aligned with the college of nursing’s educational goals.

Provide recommendations to the leadership team regarding strategic direction for simulation related needs and initiatives.

Assist Senior Associate Dean in interviewing and hiring simulation staff and conduct or ensure completion of annual evaluations of assigned simulation staff.

Provide leadership and direction to the simulation team, including specialists, educators, and support staff.

Collaborate with academic departments to integrate simulation into their curricula and ensure alignment with program outcomes.

Oversee the budget for the simulation center and ensure efficient use of resources.

Design and develop evidence‑based simulation‑based learning experiences that reflect current best practices.

Work with faculty to incorporate simulation into course objectives and assessments.

Develop and implement evaluation tools to assess the effectiveness of simulation activities and student performance.

Provide training and support to faculty in the use of simulation as a teaching and assessment tool.

Organize workshops, seminars, and other professional development opportunities related to simulation.

Mentor faculty in the development of simulation scenarios and debriefing techniques.

Promote and support research activities related to simulation‑based education.

Participate in professional simulation organizations as a representative of the CON.

Disseminate findings through publications, presentations, and participation in professional organizations.

Stay current with trends and advancements in simulation technology and educational methodologies.

Continuously evaluate and improve the quality of simulation activities and resources.

Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and institutional policies.

Develop and implement protocols for the maintenance and safe use of simulation equipment.

Support external stakeholders and events for the CON by planning and supporting events, and tours.

Be available for early morning, evening, or weekend events based on seasonal activities; this position is not remote/hybrid.

Education and Experience Requirements Education:

Doctoral degree in a relevant field (e.g., nursing, medicine, health sciences, education).

Experience:

Significant experience in simulation-based education and faculty development.

Skills:

Proven leadership and management skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work well in a team, demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

Knowledge:

Knowledge of general nursing care and academic nursing curriculum, strong understanding of accreditation standards and best practices in simulation, familiarity with research and scholarship in simulation.
