Job Summary The Program Leading to University Success (PLUS) is seeking a
Retention Specialist – Program Leading to University Success
to oversee the Academic Coaching, Study Groups & Tutoring components of the PLUS program.
Responsibilities
Oversee the implementation, coordination, and evaluation of PLUS programming.
Facilitate instruction of students on success strategies individually and in groups.
Hire, supervise, train, and evaluate student employees (GSAs, undergrads, grads); manage paperwork and bi‑monthly timesheets.
Define performance expectations, provide feedback, coaching, and mentoring to PLUS student staff.
Design and implement professional‑development series for student employees on customer service, resume building, job search, social media etiquette, and leadership skills.
Design, implement, and evaluate academic‑success‑strategy curriculum for PLUS presentations, workshops, and events for faculty and departments.
Design, implement, evaluate, and report on designated retention programs, projects, and activities.
Manage and analyze EWU student‑retention data using EAB Navigate and Banner.
Develop training modules for tutoring operations and ensure new users receive training.
Monitor and manage Alerts and Cases within Navigate.
Liaise with faculty, CAAR advisors, student‑service units, and others to promote the EagleCare Network and coordinate campus resources.
Coordinate PLUS outreach efforts across campus and community, including orientation events and specialized programs.
Serve on applicable EWU committees impacting student success and retention.
Create and maintain website pages and forms for EWU PLUS.
Support the Director and provide a front‑office environment that is student‑ and faculty‑centered.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
Evidence of partnership building and effective teamwork.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Excellent presentation, public‑speaking, and writing skills.
Responsive and flexible approach that supports universal access for all stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience coordinating university or college student‑success, tutoring, or academic‑coaching programs.
Experience working with university students.
Experience hiring, supervising, training, or organizing employees or volunteers.
Experience coordinating university programs that provide academic services to multiple participants.
Experience using best practices in student learning and academic support to facilitate success.

Salary & Benefits Salary range: $51,291 – $61,554 annually. Benefits include health and disability insurance, retirement, vacation and sick‑leave accruals, 12 paid holidays, tuition waiver for employees and eligible family members, discounted sports tickets, campus gym access, and free STA bus transportation.
Conditions of Employment Position involves handling university funds and unsupervised access with vulnerable populations. Successful background check required. Authorization to work for any U.S. employer required; no visa sponsorship. Immunization policy compliance required with possible waivers. Public School Employee CBA applies.
